  • Julian Robertson Bets the Farm on Inflation [View article]
Thanks for all the comments. We agree with those of you who have said this is a crowded trade. In the article, we even noted that our publishing such a piece is most likely a contrarian signal to get out or at least take profits in the near-term. Robertson has been in different forms of this trade (curve steepeners, steepener swaps, etc ) since '08 so he's its obviously in his best interests to publicize his positions.

Since his interview with Value Investor just came out, we wanted to highlight that. Obviously the timing of this article is not the best, as many of you have pointed out. Proceed with caution certainly.

  • Gold Is Moving, Treasury Bubble Bursting [View article]
great post, interesting data. It's interesting that many people often see both gold and treasuries as indicators of inflation. They flock to gold to hedge inflation and they short treasuries to avoid inflation. However, we've noted that legendary hedge fund mgr Julian Robertson doesn't like gold as a hedge on inflation. He sees it more as psychological than anything. Instead, he prefers to brace for inflation by shorting US treasuries: www.marketfolly.com/20...

  • Why I'm Starting to Fear Inflation [View article]
definitely share your concerns re: inflation. And, you're definitely not alone as numerous prominent hedge fund managers see inflation as the next big wave. Michael Steinhardt, Jim Rogers, and Julian Robertson all think massive inflation is on the way and they all dislike treasuries as an investment. Julian Robertson even shorted them recently via steepener swaps. It's a fascinating play: www.marketfolly.com/20...

  • Is the Treasury Driving the Dollar's Fall? [View article]
definitely agree that the focus will remain on inflation. However, this could take much longer to fully come to fruition than people realize (years). It's still hard to ignore though. Julian Robertson of Tiger Management (legendary hedge fund manager) has already braced for the inflationary supercycle by investing in steepener swaps, which is basically the same as shorting US treasuries: www.marketfolly.com/20...

  • What's John Paulson Buying Now? Hint... Think Gold [View article]
    Crank Monkey,

Yes most of Paulson's equity positions are arbitrage related plays, so it would be safe to assume something like what you pondered. The problem though is we don't see what he is shorting, as there is more likely than not another portion of each of his arbitrage trades.

  • What's John Paulson Buying Now? Hint... Think Gold [View article]
    Moon Kil Woong,

This article is about hedge fund manager John Paulson. You are referencing ex-Treasury secretary Hank Paulson. They are different people. Just wanted to clarify.
