You can make money off hedge fund holdings certainly. We've illustrated that with our Market Folly portfolio that is seeing 20.5% annualized returns. It invests in the very SEC filings we track and post up. See our post here: www.marketfolly.com/20...

hey nyoneway, thanks for pointing that out. Those positions are under the 'increased' paragraph so both XLE and XLV were increased by greater than 100%, which will then make sense. I apologize for the mistake, as something got messed up in my formatting of my original blog entry.
So, everything under the "increased" paragraph should read: increased by. And, everything under the "decreased" paragraph should read: decreased by. Hopefully this clarifies.

POT is always interesting and could be a very solid play going forward if the current supply picture gets even bleaker as george soros and jim rogers have argued. we track hedge funds on our blog and have noted that soros has accumulated quite a large POT position lately: www.marketfolly.com/20...

bc818 you have to keep in mind that its not necessarily all losses... they have sold off quite a substantial amount of equities. since this is the long side of their equity portfolio, they were removing a lot of longs. so think of it as potential losses combined with decreasing long equity exposure.

all the holdings listed above (& in all 13F filings for that matter) are long holdings. they are not required to disclose short positions
hope this helps.
