  • Did Star Scientific Just Find a Cure for Alzheimer's Disease? [View article]
One statement regarding Medivation was challenged and has been removed. According to a Medivation representative, "In fact, the FDA has not requested that Medivation stop any of its ongoing dimebon trials. In March, Medivation announced that its Phase 3 CONNECTION trial of dimebon did not meet its primary and secondary efficacy endpoints. (Please click here for the news release - investors.medivation.c....) Since then, Medivation, with its partner Pfizer, has continued to evaluate dimebon in four other ongoing randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 3 studies, which currently are enrolling. The CONCERT trial is a 12-month study testing dimebon in patients with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease who are taking donepezil, a commonly prescribed Alzheimer's disease medication. The CONTACT and CONSTELLATION trials are six-month trials testing dimebon in patients with moderate-to-severe Alzheimer's disease taking currently approved AD medications. In CONTACT, subjects must also be taking donepezil, while in CONSTELLATION they must also be taking memantine, another commonly prescribed Alzheimer's disease medication. Dimebon is also being tested in the HORIZON trial, a six-month study evaluating dimebon in patients with Huntington disease. "

  • Citi Warns of Withdrawal Gate [View article]
    Received by email:
I saw your post on Citibank and wanted to get you some additional information. At issue is Reg D, which requires that in order for a NOW account to be eligible to earn interest or receive promotions, a bank must reserve the right to require seven days advance notice before permitting a withdrawal.

When Citibank moved to unlimited FDIC coverage in 2009, we had to reclassify many checking accounts to allow for immediate withdrawals in order to ensure all customers qualified for the additional coverage. When we moved back to standard FDIC coverage with most major banks in 2010, Citibank decided to reclassify those accounts back to make them eligible again for promotional incentives. To do so, Federal Reserve Reg D requires these accounts, called NOW accounts, to reserve the right to require a 7-day notice of withdrawal. We recently communicated this technical requirement to our customers. However, we have never exercised this right and have no plans to do so in the future.

No, number of reports isn't the driving factor in why a comment gets deleted. Read terms of use to see why - bad language, rudeness to individuals, namecalling.... And we allow more leeway on instablogs (this title would not be allowed on the main site, for example). There are also some technical reasons that trigger our automatic comments filters - publishing the identical comment on multiple articles, including links that are identified as spam, e.g.
