  • ClubCorp Is A Consolidator That Could Add Distance To Your Game [View article]
    Thanks Brad
Living in Dallas, the city of ClubCorp founding by the Dedman family. I frankly was not aware they had gone public via IPO last year. As Chuck, Warren, and Charlie say buy the business model not the stock.
I have 2 observations, one is that in Dallas golf is not dead, in fact when I recently searched for a club to join several I called had no openings for memberships and a waiting list after applying and paying substantial deposit.
And CC is also building city clubs in most of the new university stadiums being built across the US, ie see Baylor University new stadium. The clubs will be open daily for business leaders as well as special event rentals and Game Days.
Like the potential as a REIT conversion. Thanks

  • A Lot To Like In Stable Dividend Portfolio Pick Maiden Holdings [View article]
Thank you for the comments. The Maiden Holdings website and investor presentations highlight the following:
An important initiative in 2013 was the sale of the Excess and Surplus Property portfolio to Brit Global Specialty. This action significantly reduced the company exposure to potential catastrophic losses, consistent with the fundamental strategy of focusing on more stable and predictable business.

Focus on low-volatility lines of business and more predictable "working layer" reinsurance- Not focused on the property catastrophe reinsurance market

  • Waste Management - Is It Time To Bring In Or Take Out? [View article]
Thanks for the comments, a couple of things to like I think outside of the general financial information is their customer retention, interest in new waste technologies, and their move to fuel efficiencies, which I think will continue to add to operating efficiencies and cost savings, which should support ongoing dividend and share repurchases.
And, I agree with eyebelieve-it is a good defensive stock in a broad based diversified portfolio to hold for long term.
