Yes but, the same argument was directly applicable to network TV news shows pre-cable...there weren't options so the networks could run non-profitable news segments which increased the quality of network news. After cable entered the scene, there were many many more choices and profitability became key.

What you're referring to is an industry that has fat - and where there is fat, there is an opportunity for a disruptive player to make the industry more competitive. Quality per channel may decrease, in exchange for more choice, diversity and competitive pricing.

Curious what you mean with your HBO example? Why wouldn't HBO want fans subscribing directly with them and replacing the fat cable company middle-man with the slim cut from Apple?

Of course I am...I'm not citing any quoted sources for authoritative information on Apple TV apps. I'm just extrapolating from current trends in the industry and my own technology background. I see the opportunity and that's my best estimate of what Apple's real plan is for Apple TV.

If I was Cook, that's what I'd do...

That might be true in areas with limited backbone, but bandwidth is already becoming a commodity. If cable companies increase their rates too much, competitors will come in and eat their lunch. They just don't have that kind of market power in most places and regulatory authorities would probably frown on this behavior.

They don't provide internet access right? If so, then I don't see good things in their long-term future, although they could always gobble dwindling share from the cable companies.

Sure, buy at the top of a parabolic move. Seems brilliant to me!!!

Better advice- don't chase. Wait for the inevitable pullback below 500 and buy there. Patience.

Watson did use natural language recognition, it just didn't use speech recognition. It was fed the clues as text at the same time the clues were read by Alex Trebek. To make it more 'Siri-like' you'd just need to add voice recognition technology.

Watson also had a huge hardware backend, but so does Siri. A good chunk of the processing on your voice request isn't handled on your phone but is processed by a remote server.

Your understanding of Apple is as sophisticated as your understanding of foreign affairs. The capture of Saddam Hussein??? Iraq was never united under Saddam - he ruled with an iron fist, which is why after we invaded the place fell apart. If you're saying the insurgency/Sunnis were united under him, well then why didn't the insurgency fall apart after his capture? Dumb statement.

Extrapolate to your 'analysis' of Apple.

I think some people intentionally write stupid articles just so they can get a bunch of page views and make $30 or $40. It's a major problem with SA.

The question is, why? Why is the stock going down? Apple dominates the tablet market, it continually blows out earnings and is an industry leader in innovation. By any measure the stock should be soaring. So why is it declining?

This all makes sense, except for the fact that the market is looking to correct because of unemployment, end-QE2, and DeMark 9's all over the place. Apple can't hold up in the face of a broad market decline predicated on a slowing economy.

What do you think of this news that Verizon sold fewer Iphones than expected?

I rode Apple up to 340 in Jan, sold, then rebought recently at 340, but this weak economic data and overall market mushiness looks to be a sign to flee.
