    habear - A good argument.

Trout and Kershaw are statistical leaders in their respective categories and are putting of HOF like numbers very early in their careers. MadBum needs a few more seasons under his belt before I would consider him elite. He could turn into another Linceucum, who dominated until he was 27 and looked like a HOF pitcher and has since been a #4 or #5 starter at best over the last 3 seasons.

Posey has been the rock behind the plate and could end his career as one of the top 10 catchers of all time, but his numbers will not compare to what Trout will finish his career with.

Jlauro13 - There is potential depending on what the NBA does with the draft rules that very good high school players could go play in (Europe or China) instead of college and then enter the draft. Under Armour could pitch deals with these top players who will put a year or even two into the international game prior to going to the NBA. The Chinese love American brands like Apple and Nike (Jordan effect). Stephon Marbury is still trying to sell/market his Starbury line of shoes (http://starbury.com) and his main target market is China where he is still playing today.

BMORE - A lot of credit has to go to Kerr and his system and leadership. A lot of teams are filled with talent but it takes players to buy in and completely trust their coach to make them a high performing team.

Petino tried to make the move from college to the pros and it was a miserable failure for him and the Boston Celtics.

I see Brad Stevens as a great coach with the Celtics and has his guys performing at an unbelievable level that is significantly above their talent level as a team.

dcherryhum - I fixed his name. I refer to Kershaw as Clay or CY (young) since he's ridiculously good on the mound. Clay and Felix are in a league of their own right now. Clay is at risk for breaking down due to excessive use but there is no way to know how much work load a pitcher's arm can handle without a major injury.

BMORE - My main point is that the Warriors and Stephen Curry are not household names. Curry for much of his career was known as Dell Curry's son, but Steph has now become a much bigger name than his father.

I would have never thought Curry could become an MVP candidate at any point in his career. He's certainly exceeded my expectations and likely will continue to do so.

    BMORE -

The warriors are certainly one of the favorites to win this year along with Cleveland and the Spurs. I expect the Warriors to lose to the Spurs in the conference finals.

I'm personally a big fan of NBA basketball and know what this team is made of. They were not a team I took seriously heading into this year and even in the 2nd half of the season I was waiting for them to fall apart.

However, they match up well against the top teams in the west and their roster is full of talent. The Hawks finished with the best record in the East but I don't consider them a contender.

The Warriors will need to match the highest offer Green gets in the market this summer. He was NBA ready out of a college but a man without a position. The Warriors under Kerr have realized they can use him at any of the 5 positions on the court.

David Lee was the most important player on the court for them in 2014. In 2015 Lee doesn't start and is not a vital contributor to the team's success. They also signed some solid reserves like Livingston and Barbosa that give them depth 1 through 10.

rwpauli - Jordan who? Michael Jordan? Joking aside there actually is another successful athlete named Jordan outside of #23.

I look at golf and think who does my mom know? The answer would be Tiger Woods and maybe Phil Mickelson.

The challenge is growing your endorser beyond the fans of your sport but into a celebrity status. However, Under Armour will do very well with Speight if he can continue to build on his success to a capture an increased share of golf merchandise sales.

    Teutonic Knight -

The battery life is also a function of the components in the device and the operating system. As components continue to become smaller and more efficient it will drive improved performance.

Even if Apple kept the same battery in the device it would see an improvement in battery life just from the next generation of components. However, Apple will introduce an improved battery and newer more efficient components in the second generation device should alone could improve the battery life by 25-50%.

The other factor that will drive the battery life is the operating system. Improvements will be made to improve execution of tasks. As Apple roles out updates to the iOS it could also improve the battery life by a few hours before the next generation device comes out.

Dustin Moore - I think it's like going to an auction and you may want to drive up someone else's prices so they run out of money to get the merchandise you really want. The Red Sox and Yankees played this game for years with free agents knowing full well a player would choose the other team and leveraged offers from each team to get more from the team they actually wanted to sign and would eventually sign with.

While at Babson College getting my undergraduate degree is Business Administration we did a few business development projects with a simulator. We had a fixed pool of money and each band was auctioned off to each team and you had to buy 4 bands. You could buy the perennial winner, the unknown artist and middle of the road talent. You had an opportunity to invest in your band and try to build their brand by improving the status of your band.

At the end of day the team with the existing superstar band that paid the most money won the overall project but it was a close race. If Under Armour can pick up enough quality names in basketball for the same price as 2-3 Kevin Durant's and they buy early and make the right selection it will pay off.

The problem with the NBA or any other sport and even a guy picked at #1 has no guarantee they will become an MVP, all-star or even survive in the NBA beyond their initial guaranteed 3 year deal. Jordan was not a #1 pick but he became the biggest marketing brand in sports history.

joanpete - every time I see UA go up and up I say to myself I missed it but the company continues to outperform the market and competitors.

I saw Steph play in Buffalo against Maryland and all I could think of is he looked like a HS kid out there but by far my favorite player on the court and an incredible scorer. He's matured his overall game after not being elected as an all-star just a few years ago. I think he continues to thrive in his role as the underdog and it stems from his time at Davidson.

  • Apple, IBM: An Engagement Focused On Healthcare Analytics [View article]
cbinding - I think we need to view this as investing in infrastructure and establishing processes first by IBM. IBM equipment and service sales to the healthcare industry as second.

The data collected day 1 will improve drastically over the next several years. However, in order to be ready for two years from it takes an investment today to build the infrastructure and process to accumulate and analyze the data. IBM is building that now and establishing relationships with companies to advance this project from what I would view as a beta/test level and turn it into a production environment and sell its services to others as a value add.

Healthcare companies spend billions of dollars each year on utilization management, care management, reviewing claims data for over payments based on clinical review. In theory by getting the data upfront on your patients there will be more and more preventable measures put in place to keep patients healthy and away from the ER and eliminate a portion of medical claims.

zariji - The challenge is for IBM is that the market looks at this for IBM and says "so what? what does this change today?" - The short answer is it does nothing for IBM in terms of meaninful revenue or EPS growth this year or even next year.

IBM is laying down the framework of a new frontier in data analytics and healthcare management but it will take quite some time for non-for-profit, for-profit health care companies along with the private and public sector to see the fruits of the labor and invest the capital needed to handle volumes of data.

Apple's partnership with IBM last fall likely will likely not contribute any meaningful sales for Apple's iPhones or iPads in calendar 2015. However, as applications get developed and businesses understand how IBM can leverage Apple's devices sales will increase through this relationship.

The watch itself is a first generation device that will sell 10m to 20m in its first year on the market. However, the difference between generation 2 and generation 1 will be drastic. The first year buyers are essentially guinea pigs for Apple to figure out what needs to be improved or developed for the next generation of watches.
