  • U.S. Drought Easing: A Potential Multi-Billion Dollar Shot In The Arm For The Economy [View article]
As of this post May wheat is trading at a 2 cent discount to May corn. The spread was at $1.80 premium 5 months ago. My opinion is wheat can be bought against corn...any other thoughts?

Contact me for specifics..the premise is if you have a large bullish position to sell calls or buy puts as to capture alpha on a 5,10,1 5% correction. Conversely if you were short and anticipated a move higher you could sell puts or buy calls.

Didn't your mother ever teach you that if you did not have anything nice or constructive to say you keep your mouth shut?

Current price of futures is 13925...500 point is 3.6%. That is my first target but ultimately I think we could see a 5-7% drop dragging March futures to near 13000... which would be a 61.8% Fibonacci retracement.

  • Today In Commodities: More Gas In The Tank For Corn? [View article]
Weather is but 1 piece in the puzzle. Short covering is another. In full disclosure many of my trading decisions are made off technical analyses...after a near $1 drop in futures in the last 45 days I view it possible to see a 50% - 61.8% retracement. In February futures that is $3.60 and $3.70 respectively. Looking longer term on a weekly chart though prices traded under the trend line that has held since the spring in 2012 it was not violated on a closing basis...they say the trend is your friend and since prices bottomed we've been in an uptrend. No crystal bull but worthy of a trade in my opinion.

There is very little premium going out several months so giving yourself time in still liquid contracts and not having to roll every month makes sense to me for a swing trade. Longer term to me is 4 months I know you reference over a year out but there is no volume. My premise is that cold weather could effect prices and that would happen in the next few months not contacts one year plus on the curve.

Out to 2014 maybe selling out of the money calls against long futures could be a viable trade you sit in..I'd have to research a little but worth a look I agree.

I have multiple clearing relationship for commodities and FX ...let me know if I can help you with any of your trading needs.

There is nothing low risk when trading natural. I would not suggest opening a fresh position here. I'd prefer to be a buyer from lower levels.

The dollar is down 33% in the last last decade...the bounce I am forecasting to the 20 day MA is far from a bullish development. It represents a 1.1% appreciation.
