Ok, so where did we trash it? Decent play, pointed out the draw backs. They have a good news surprise and that causes a dramatic rise. Let it play out. If you were trying to win a war you would not get excited over one battle.
Could be any one or all of the issues you stated above as well as geology not playing out as anticipated or the milling process not being calibrated correctly. One has to fine tune these mines to get it working perfectly and sometimes just one thing being off 1% can cause a huge difference in production. There are a million things that one plans can go wrong and another million you do not know about which can go wrong. Talk to any CEO in the industry and they will tell you...any one who is not telling a lie that is.
Very true. Usually it has to do with a company using the funds to invest in better returning assets, but here it is simply altering the capitalization of the company. Unfortunately they are bowing to the market's will, short-term good but long-term it will cost them. The Egyptian assets do need to go though, too much of a headache. Reminds me a bit of the Talisman situation with Sudan years ago.

The trade you did in GPOR was for risk as I remember, taking money off of the table and you did so by selling calls against the position...which was not a bad idea as it gave you a bit more via the premium...obviously you were confident the shares were not going to go too much lower (as I suspect you would have sold the position entirely then).
ROSE is being dragged down by the secondary and debt issuance, but long term it is positioned like GPOR, great company with prime assets. Hard to go wrong with Eagle Ford and Permian exposure, right?
If you have done your DD on BCEI, which I know you have, PDCE has probably come up. Generally speaking somewhat similar. They rally together so maybe not diversified enough for you.
Been buying PDCE and ROSE lately TFCAB, see some value and then a lot of value with EVEP too. Hopefully when I look back in hindsight I won't mind it being so clear!
I get the trust concept, but there was no news thus the quote. All of these names trade a bit higher than they should on the belief that natural gas will be higher and you have some using them as a speculative vehicle after hearing about the amazing gains which were reaped from the BP Prudhoe vehicle. The fact is a lot of investors are going to get hurt in these as they do not understand the well economics or how the reserves are estimated/calculated. That was the takeaway.
Posted today on them, both of those names actually so nice coincidence. I like Yamana better because a bit more volatile and still developing assets. The big boys are entrenched and have to deal more with the costs of running a mine affecting their business...not a whole lot of upside for investors to speculate on. Also discuss the breakdown in price of gold v price performance of gold miners' shares a bit. Hard to do in a morning run down, but gave it a shot this morning!
