  • Boston Beer (SAM) increased sales by over 40% during a four-week tracking period, according to Citi Research. A combination of seasonal specials, higher promotional spending, and attractive pricing helped beer sales shoot up 18% in dollar terms. [View news story]
    (SAM) is a Buffett-like play: a soon-to-be household name.

  • An opinion piece titled "The Other Government Motors" from the WSJ isn't too subtle about taking apart the Q1 profit Tesla Motors (TSLA +1.4%) reported as it hitched a free ride with U.S. taxpayers. The zero-emission tax credits Tesla can sell to other automakers and the generous $7.5K federal tax credits to motivate buyers are the big two complaints. But what isn't entirely clear is why other car companies selling EVs aren't lumped into the same discourse? [View news story]
(TSLA) is not going away. It is not going to die. But both people long and short need to be realistic. How many +$1 billion market cap stocks rise 100% in a month? Did the company's fundamentals improve 100% in a month?

My feeling is that the stock will be flat or have a 20% correction in the next 6 months or a year. Eventually, people are going to take profits.

Any no, it will not reach $100 billion in 10 or 20 years.

  • Shares of Melco Crown (MPEL) shrug off a downgrade from Macquarie to trade higher than their opening level as traders bet yesterday's selloff on worries about China's economy was a bit overdone. Though it's not up and running in the Philippines just yet, Melco Crown will be more than a pure Macau play in the future. [View news story]
Interesting. Wonder if the Philippians is just as good as what Singapore did for (LVS).

The Japanese people know that over the long run, investing in the Nikkei is not a good investment. That is why uncle is investing in the U.S. Hey, maybe the rally is not being driven by American investors. As far as I know, they are still pessimistic, with $1.3 trillion out of the market. Maybe it is being caused by a flood of foreign investors. After all, the U.S. is a bright spot in a bad world economy.

"Google mulls offer for Waze. Google (GOOG) could reportedly enter the fray for Israeli start-up Waze, which provides a mobile phone app that helps drivers avoid traffic jams and has over 40M users. Waze has been holding talks with Facebook (FB) for a $1B deal while there was chatter earlier this year of Apple (AAPL) offering $500M. Waze could disappoint them all by raising more venture-capital money and staying independent."
-- How does Waze make money: subscription or advertising?

"Dish nears financing for Sprint bid. Dish (DISH) is reportedly moving closer to getting financing for its $25.5B offer for Sprint (S), receiving signed commitment letters from five banks for $9B. Dish hasn't yet paid commitment fees, as Charlie Ergen is waiting for Sprint's board to declare Dish's proposal potentially superior to SoftBank's (SFTBF.PK) $20.1B bid. Meanwhile, Sprint and SoftBank have received all the necessary state regulatory approvals for their transaction."
-- Why does (DISH), a satellite TV company, want a telecommunication company?

"Pandora surges despite increased losses. Pandora's (P) FQ1 net losses widened to $28.6M from $20.2M as the Internet radio company's expenses outpaced its revenue growth of 55% to $125.5M. Losses per share were in line at -$0.10. Despite the losses, shares jumped 11.9% premarket after Pandora increased its FY earnings guidance, saying it now expects EPS of -$0.02 to +$0.08. During FQ1, listening hours soared 35% to 4.18B."
-- Could (P) be the next (SIRI)?

  • Annual shareholder meeting headaches: An increasing trend at this year's round of shareholder meeting for major companies is a rash of negative publicity from loud activist shareholders looking to score points on political issues. McDonald's (MCD) had to engage in spirited debate and a shareholder vote on childhood obesity - while CBS (CBS) had its meeting nearly taken over by a pro-Israel group. During the Q&A session of Time Warner's (TWX) meeting, CEO Jeff Bewkes was bombarded with complaints over CNN's coverage on major issues. Though the companies won all the important shareholder votes, execs appeared a little more bedraggled than normal. [View news story]
Exactly. I pass by (DNKN) everyday and ask myself if I should stop by. Not to mention, not stopping by also keeps a few bucks in the wallet. And those few bucks can add up quickly.

Also, I heard a (SBUX) frappicino has a lot of calories. Maybe that is making Americans fat. Of course, no one will question not getting the morning coffee.

I heard that (SDRL) and (SDLP) are not considered MLPs based on tax purposes. So I guess one can hold them in an IRA.

I blame the soda companies (KO) and (PEP) for making us fat. People normally don't go to (MCD) everyday, but they do buy a (KO) everyday. Just stop drinking (KO) and you'll be amazed how much you lose. Plus, Diet Coke is laughable. Due to the chemicals in Diet drinks, they increase your appetite so you eat more. Thus, you gain more weight.

  • Tesla Motors (TSLA) gains 6.2% in premarket trading to reach $93.10 as its dizzying post-earnings victory lap continues. Morgan Stanley is out with what is largely a cautionary note before crunching the numbers for the "extreme" bull case. The firm says if Tesla achieves a 20% operating margin on 200K units per year, then a $300-plus price target could be justified. [View news story]
