  • What's Ailing eBay and Yahoo? [View article]
i think you miss the salient difference:
Amazon, Google, Myspace are all run by their founders. Yahoo and ebay were run by hired hands.

Because of this they lost their product's initial elegance and the ability to innovate for users best interest (as opposed to commercial interests) around their core product's value proposition to customers.

  • Two Take-Aways from the eBay-Skype Deal (AMZN, EBAY, GOOG, TWX, YHOO)  [View article]
In my mind, One of the key reasons for this acquisition is missing from many of the posts. A lot of commerce is still done on the telephone. Some small stores (of which there are many) do not feel comfortable on the web or are more user-friendly on the phone.

Additionally, Skype is a platform that is extensible with both more commerce and broader communications (see iskoot.com as an example). What if they added RSS feeds into the client so you would not need to use email or check your my ebay to find yoru deals.
