  • What Katrina Was to FEMA, Swine Flu Deaths Are to FDA - Buy BioCryst
In contrast to their good job shepherding swine flu vaccines through the approval process, the FDA has failed for months to provide Intensive Care Unit doctors with an an effective intravenous antiviral to treat the sickest victims of H1N1. FDA began a Pre-Emergency Use Authorization process for BioCryst's peramivir almost six months ago. The development of peramivir has been sponsored by HHS, and it has completed Phase I and II trials in the U.S. and Phase I, II and III trials in Japan. It is known to be safe and effective, yet Americans are dying daily in the ICU without timely access to the drug.

  • Buy The Obesity Drug Basket: ARNA, OREX, VVUS
For many years, the Department of Agriculture has published a food triangle that recommends carbohydrates as the basis of a healthy diet, even though there is no minimum daily requirement for carbs. None. Dr. Atkins is rolling over in his grave.

  • OMG - It's A V-Shaped Recovery!
In my June 15 article, Bad News? They're Just Lagging Indicators , I outraged some on SeekingAlpha.com with my statement that: “The recession is over.” I said you should not pay attention to the lagging indicators like employment, especially when cited by an otherwise bearish stock market forecaster as a reason the rally was a fake, manipulated, engineered by the evildoers on Wall Street, etc.

  • The Recession Is Over

It's deep summer at last, and that means lower trading volume and an easier time manipulating the market for those so inclined. The reasons given for the recent weakness – worries about the timing and pace of the economic recovery – didn't make sense to me. I wrote about the lagging indicators in http://seekingalpha.com/article/143237-bad-news-they-re-just-lagging-indicators on June 15 and said don't let the laggers and those who quote them fool you, the recession is over. Now I've taken a look at the leading indicators, as you'll see below, the story is the same:

  • A Biotech Triple Play: Dendreon (DNDN) to BioCryst (BCRX) to Arena (ARNA)

There's only one thing better than catching a big stock market winner like Dendreon, and that's letting your profits ride on two or three winners in a row. Even though not one of the seven Wall Street analysts following Dendreon had a buy on the stock before the recent announcement that the final Phase III trial of the company's Provenge prostate cancer drug was a clear success, we had it listed as a Top Buy for many months and subscribers rode it from under $5 to over $20. I've recently asked them to sell some Dendreon and buy a position in BioCryst before a pending announcement, planning to sell the BioCryst this summer to buy Arena Pharmaceuticals before their September announcement of the second Phase III lorcaserin obesity drug trials.
