Bret, thanks for the comment and clarification on calendar vs. diagonal spreads. I certainly could've worded that piece better in the article.

It is absolutely at a 52 week high, question is will it continue to make new highs in the weeks and months to come. No doubt a pullback may in order.

MORT is included in my 2nd installment and also provides superb yield. There is no doubt that mREITs such as REM and MORT have an advantage with respect to yield and you may not be able to 100% directly compare with equity REITs, but they are all highly correlated and warrant some degree of direct comparison given similar return performance over the last 12 months. Just so happens that REM did so with a lot less volatility. Good luck to you with your REIT investments!

  • Potash May Be Presenting A Good Buying Opportunity [View article]
Again, you are citing figures which occurred during a major market collapse due to a macroeconomic financial crisis. Are you saying we can expect to see the same thing happen to the market near term or just that POT's earnings will be that miserable this year to fall to $20 on it's own accord?

Great points Chris on currency effect. You forgot to mention the Chinese yuan. I agree that Russia is a concern for all Canadian potash producers.

A $20 price target values POT at a P/E under 6 with current EPS estimates for 2012. That's nearing 2008 levels at the height of the financial crises. I suppose if this mess in Europe explodes we could see that happen, and if it does, there won't be many stocks that are a good buy right now.

Company websites should include DRIP information in their Investor sections if they offer one. Another resource is http://bit.ly/L7aIwG but I would check the company website first.

Valid point. I also didn't include brokerage commissions you avoid when using a DRIP plan, which may or may not be higher than DRIP Fees.

Earnings growth doesn't necessarily coincide with share price increase. The last decade or so of 0% capital gains in S&P500 is evidence. The assumption of constant share price is purely to determine a base for increase in share ownership due to reinvested dividends.

In the first paragraph, it is stated I used my current yield of 2.27% at an average bought in share price of $105.94, which is close to your stated current yield of 2.18%. You stoked my curiosity, what do you believe the yield threshold that many DGI investors seek is?
