  • B&G Foods Inc.: Serving Up A Healthy Dividend Yield From A Very Competitive Sector [View article]
    Hi Steve:

I agree and I think you're wise to be patient with the company, while staying on top of what they're doing at the same time. I like the entry prices as well, which along with the dividend yield is one reason I'm looking at them.

I think they are wise to be more strategic with their promotion spending. However, I think maybe some new initiatives to spark their legacy brands could help. Direct their promotions to the contemporary audience and reap the benefits like other consumer products companies have have done with legacy brands, for example, the hipper so-to-speak Kraft Dinner advertisements and the revamp of the Old Spice advertising you see now. It could work for the company if they are selective in this and spend prudently.

All the best in your investing and due diligence as you research companies!

Very valid points! Don't discount the gluten-free movement as it has thrust behind it and is grabbing a bigger piece of the market.

You're right about the catchy name as well, which can translate into extra sales to satisfy children's demands for something fun to add to the shopping cart.

Personally, I'm comfortable with the entry price.

Yes, you're right. close to 100% and your right about the estimates.
The sales growth is there but the company itself is expecting more performance from its many brands. The foundational strength is apparent in its operations but it is looking to build on its performance and is looking for mass merchants and other channels for growth and is not just relying on the traditional supermarket channel, which historically was the bastion of consumer packaged goods company strength.
But like you say, it wants to hit those estimates and it will be interesting to see how the estimates pan out for Q4 and for 2015.

Quite possibly a touch more risk as you point out, and definitely true your comment about bulky snack foods that, " take up more space than the usual cans and jars they are used to."

  • Days Of Wine For Willamette Valley Vineyards... Roses For Investors? [View article]
    Hi naomiwrite:

I guess I'm saying that the quality of Oregon wines are known, and are getting better known, but are still not as as well known as California wines and traditional French wines. Yes, their Pinot Noir does have a strong reputation and is one of Oregon's and Willamette Valley Vineyards' strengths when it comes to wine. Thanks!

Concerning governance, that's an excellent point and one I really didn't give much though to. Non-accountability being a problem is certainly a valid point to make. I like to think it won't be an issue at Willamette, but as as been seen too many times in business, you never know.

A strong Board of Directors , which Willamette says, "... monitors the Company‟s governance by regular review with management and outside advisors." is important. Nonetheless, Mr. Bernau is the Chairperson of the Board of Directors! So, in essence, you are right, investors are beholden to his wishes. His track-record as a businessperson gives me a measure of confidence, but there's is always that issue of non-accountability that you are correct in pointing out and investors uncomfortable with this concerning Willamette must weigh that against the Company's strength. Thanks for pointing this issue out

Thanks! Will take a look at them...they're in my backyard so-to-speak here in Ontario. Good point about a possible acquisition target.

  • Small-Cap Niche Investors: Craft Brew Alliance Strategizing For Growth [View article]
    Hi:

I agree...they're a long run consideration. You make a good point about the insider sells and that the price still rose. Nice that you took a profit on the bulk of your shares but still maintain a stake in the company...I believe the potential's there for more growth that you could still benefit from.

    Hi guyfoster1...

The key to what you're saying to me is "all areas they have been preparing for seem to be coming to fruition." I think you've hit the nail on the head with that statement.
