Our Generational Imperative: Liberate The Rich From Over Taxation
When CNBC reported on Wednesday that David Siegel, owner of Westgate Resorts threatened to fire his 7,000 employees if President Barack Obama was re-elected, they neglected in typical liberal fashion to flesh out the meaning of his email instead choosing to disparage this good man by trying to make a hypocrite out of him. As a result, we learned nothing of importance. But sometimes in moments of seeming unimportance we have great moments of clarity where precognitive thoughts are born and the purpose of an entire generation is established. And this was just such a moment!
Listen to the words of this great man, and I quote: "You see I can no longer support a system that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, so will your opportunities. If that happens, you can find me in the Caribbean sitting on the beach, under a palm tree, retired, and with no employees to worry about."
You see it now, don't you? This man worries so much about his employees that he won't be able to do anything constructive on their behalf if Obama is elected to a second term. Instead, debilitated under the destructive weight of all these new socialist taxes, he'll have to fire every one of them! And don't think for a minute that this would be hard to do because in the world of business you can't become personal. You must pathologically distance yourself from the human element and from the effects your actions have on other human beings. Just listen to what Dr. Raj Shrotriya, president of Spectrum Pharmaceuticals (SPPI) had to say recently about the firing of the employees of Allos Therapeutics in an interview with David Moskowitz on PropThink.
"I was in Boston when we announced the acquisition of Allos on Friday at about 5 o'clock. I made sure that between 5 and 6 o'clock most of the people at Allos were terminated because we want to make sure that we don't carry on any expense in our books that we can get rid of. And we are very proud to say we did that!"
And who wouldn't be? By acting decisively, he protected himself and his investors from these mooching employees who probably wanted to continue to draw a paycheck at their employer's expense. Bravo sir! Bravo! And shame on the them for declaring their membership in the 47%.
The truth of David Siegel's story however, goes far beyond this candid email to his employees. You see, David Siegel has become the figurehead of a modern day movement that will not rest until justice has been wrought. This is a call to action!
Every generation has to confront the evil brought against a minority by the governing powers that be. In Lincoln's time - slavery! In Kennedy's - civil rights! In Reagan's - those insatiable welfare queens! And now, in what will be known one day as the Romney era, we will confront the last foe of civil liberty - the over taxation of the rich!
You see, the rich are the minority of minorities in this country comprising only 1% of the population but paying 34% of the taxes. And those who choose to devote their entire lives to business, sacrificing every small and human pleasure pay as much as 50% in taxes to all principalities; local, state and federal. Where is the justice in that? Wasn't it Dr. King who reminded us: "Without justice, there can be no peace." For David Siegel and Raj Shrotriya there is no peace.
Dear reader, will you join with me now to stop this injustice? If we return Obama to the White House, they will be forced to a tropical beach somewhere out of our sight. If we on the other hand do the right thing and vote for Mitt Romney, they will courageously toil on our behalf. Only by acting together can we change the tide of human indifference to the plight of the rich. If we elect Mitt Romney two things will happen to unshackle the invisible chains of the 1%.
First, the tax base will have to be expanded and then flattened. If we want to liberate the rich from their oppressive tax burden we'll have to subjugate someone else by adding them to the tax rolls. There's no reason why all of us shouldn't have some skin in the game. And when we talk about "flattening" the tax code, we're not talking about "lowering rates' because that could be misinterpreted to mean favoring one group over another and that's not what we're about.
Instead, everyone will pay, say 10%. So, let's say you're a single mom with two daughters, sucking away a healthy $15T [that's $15,000 in financial speak] annually from a hard working businessman. You'll pay $1,500 in federal taxes - no loopholes! And if we've got a hundred thousand single moms out there paying $1,500 that's $150M that some poor rich guy doesn't have to pay. Amen brother! Amen!
Second and most importantly, unions will have to be broken at all levels and in all sectors. This will serve to lower the cost of labor thereby fueling the American business engine of wealth production, enterprise and expansion. Sure jobs will be lost but not real jobs. We all know union workers don't work but simply imbibe at the teat of government tax payers and drain the blood of their wealthy benefactors. To become fully human one must first become completely independent shedding parasitic skin in favor of butterfly wings. This is what we learned in grade school and what the rich are teaching us every day.
If all this sounds like the American Dream, something too good to be true, please note that it doesn't have to be. Anything worth while is worth sacrificing for and if a single mom goes without a wellness checkup or her child's tooth goes without repair and all of this is done so David Seigel can be kept off of a tropical beach somewhere, then so be it.
If on the other hand you choose to neglect this call of consciousness by remaining unconcerned and dispassionate to the plight of those with more, then you will get what you deserve. Good men like David Seigel will be laying in rows upon sandy beaches where they will have scarcely a thought of you and I. And what a tragedy that would be.
