I like 1000 oz COMEX good delivery silver bars. You can buy 'em at reasonable rates and any of the "big boys" know they are good silver.

For the end-of-the-world crowd, I think the 90% dimes, quarters and halves..and even the 40% halves, are a better deal than silver eagles. But again, their premium drops off as silver rallies.

The best trade is to buy physical when prices are high and premiums are low, hedge the metal by shorting a COMEX contract or SLV and then cover the short at lower spot and be long the bullion at a nice cheap premium.

Been doing it for 30 years.....]]>

If a private business sees larger demand, they increase staff, buy more equipment and add a second or third shift to increase production. The US Mint has never seemed to have a desire to "go the extra mile" to help their customers.
Let's face it..the Mint charges wholesalers $1.25 over silver. After their manufacturing costs, how much can they possibly make??
So they can sell 10 million ounces and make maybe $5 million. Big deal. They do better cranking out state quarters and all the other crap that gets sold on late night shopping channels.

And anyone buying a silver Eagle at a couple bucks over spot (or more) should have an IQ test anyway. It's a terrible way to invest in silver.]]>

My logic about platinum is that it is a precious metal AND an industrial metal. Silver and gold too have industrial applications but not nearly as platinum.

Platinum is essential not just in auto industry but in many other industries such as glass creation, fibre optics, petroleum, chemicals and so on. More and more industrial applications are being found for platinum, the latest being in fuel cells. So in my view the industrial bull market of platinum has just begun.

Its value in an economic downturn is simply that it is scarce. That's why I think it would follow gold if dollar crashes. ]]>

Platinum is tied incredibly to the auto sectors around the world and until those come back around, it will make small moves up and big moves back down...

With the incredible amount of inflation coming down the road, the REAL metal to hold is Silver.

Gold will move, Platinum will move, but Palladium will move more than both % wise.

Silver will beat them all....

Count on it.]]>

There are two platinum ETNs: PGM and PTM. Using Yahoo comparison charts they've both done a good job of tracking the spot price of platinum. However, PGM trades more smoothly, with less spikiness on up days.

ETNs have counter party risk (they are debt instruments backed by the banks that issue them). Nonetheless, for the time being they do the job.

I bought a platinum eagle not long ago, and would like to acquire more closer to spot if I could. ]]>

someone else will. I own several different types of gold bullion coins, which are just as viable an investment as a US minted

coin. I started my gold investment 2 years ago by picking up several Krugerrands. I now own gold canadian maple leaf's and some

Chinese Panda bullion coins. If you look on Ebay you'll see that Panda's go for more money than American Eagles.

I also think that buying gold bullion coins is probably the best way to invest in gold. Buy gold coins from different countries

and at some point some of those counties may run low on their supply of coins and your investment will go up. There's nothing

wrong with buying gold coins from different countries. Take a look at the following article which shows varius gold bullion coins

available from many countries....

Europeans too, they love gold, that's why they almost took over

Michael poses this question...Everyone has been waiting for the disconnect between the demand for silver and the price of silver to resolve itself. Will it finally happen in 2009?

I says we do see a silver make higher highs in 2009 taking out $21.40, confirming it's long term bull.

I agree that we are due for a silver rally, even in the midst of a recession. Reliable measures of world silver stocks above ground are around a billion ounces, or about 13 billion dollars.

What would it take to move the silver market of 13 billion dollars? I don't think anyone really knows the total amount but this seems like a investment that has limited downside, with massive upside potential.
