Nice work... bought by Lattice Semiconductor for $600 million. That is a 37% premium to the price at the date of this article in less than 3 months (over 100% annualized). Again, nice work on this.

  • Rosetta Stone Update: Recent Share Sales By Osmium A Warning Sign For Longs [View article]
    Ian:

I'm not trying to 'chill the speech of short sellers' rather I'm responding to what I believe are specious arguments. By way of dialogue, I've shared everything I plan to on other RST columns.

Using ostentatious headlines and flawed arguments with respect to another investors' trading -- and calling it manipulation -- is off base. The fact is that Osmium bought 147k shares in October to take them over 10%, then they filed their 13D with an action plan and got a director appointed. to suggest Osmium is an unsophisticated investor and was duped by RSTs use of adjusted EBITDA, is a pretty incredible claim.

Osmium then sold the same 147k at year-end for reasons I won't speculate, but it could be a huge number of reasons that don't spell trouble for RST investors.

Osmium and RST entered a Standstill Agreement whereby Osmium won't go over 16.5% unless the shares trade under $6.50 for 5 trading days when they can go to 19.9%. Those are the facts, not some speculation as to what another investors motivations are or what the underlying value of the business is.

Seems like MaveriQ is getting some traction. In the last six weeks (including a $4m+ win disclosed today), RDCM has disclosed $8m+ in contract wins w/ repeat customers. The sales momentum and operating leverage coupled with small float and insider ownership is a good sign, including potential for M&A in 2015 given recent deals in this space and a motivated management / shareholder base.

  • Valuable Core, Outrageously Cheap Due To Doomed Adventures Of Just Fired CEO [View article]
Good research note. It will be interesting what the company does under Dale Parker's leadership.

I sold out long ago on the parabolic Ferguson move, but it looks interesting at $2 or less. I underestimated the challenges for ISNS, but that royalty stream should throw off around $6 million or so in free cash after the costs to support it. 2x for an annuity-like cash flow stream is cheap, then there is the rest of the biz and no more investment in the FCPA investigation.

At the end of the day, this company needs to be sold in my opinion. Most the legacy investors who were massively underwater are out now after the Ferguson move, so it should be an easier sell to the investor base to liquidate.

No position, but may initiate one.
