  • Pipeline Consolidation Could Be Coming For Spectra Energy [View article]
I agree that a Canadian company might make more sense. Enbridge is rumored to be looking for acquisitions, but I'm not sure they'd want to go that big

  • Shale Producers Can't Make Money At An Oil Price Of $60 [View article]
PXD and WPX are both adding rigs back starting this month. Those companies seem to think $60 is an acceptable level to begin to ramp up drilling again.

Seems like a cyber attack. WSJ down NYSE down United canceled all their flights due to a computer issue. The odds of 3 major computer systems in the US failing at the same time seems unlikely.

You've also got production growth in Iraq and possibly Libya (both could also go negative since they're both war zones) and the Saudi's continue to increase how much they pump (and consume). Time will tell on the prices - thanks for adding to the discussion.

Lower drilling and completion costs are driving break even costs lower, which pushes the marginal price lower, which will push prices lower. If some of the largest shale producers are confident enough to start adding drilling rigs, and US production still hasn't rolled over in any meaningful manner, I think that there is a real threat that production in the US begins increasing towards the end of the year, adding pressure to prices. Would it have been a better call with oil at $60? Sure. But that doesn't change my opinion that $60 is a ceiling, and that both the ceiling and the floor are likely moving lower.

ETE is apparently prepared to go hostile to acquire Williams. Could get interesting:

  • Natural Gas Exports Ramping Sooner Than Expected [View article]
Several things. First, those are Proved Reserves, which do not take into account probable or possible reserves, which are huge. Second, according to page 20 of that report, which is where you are getting the 13.6 number, in 1983 the US had proved reserves of 4.6 trillion cubic meters, which increased to 5.4 trillion cubic meters at the end of 2003, 8.7 at the end of 2012, and 9.3 at the end of 2013. Each of these numbers increased, yet each year the US consumed more and more natural gas.

In 2012 BP reported a R/P number of 13, the 2009 report said 11.6, and the 2002 report said 9.2. Notice how the number goes up each year, even though we consume more and more natural gas each year. You can't take the R/P number and make the claim that "BP reports the US has 13.6 year supply of natural gas" That isn't what the number means. IF that was true, based on the 2002 number, the US would have ran out of natural gas in 2011.

No its not LNG but it will run from Clarington, Oh to Ontario, so it will allow for increased pipeline exports to Canada from the Marcellus and Utica. Here's the Spectra website on NEXUS

Haha yea it did rip into the close. The SEC is a bad headline but a non-event in my opinion. They've beaten all the shareholder lawsuits, so if a judge hasn't found wrong-doing in the civil cases, it'll be hard for the SEC to prove criminal wrong doing.

  • Coming Higher U.S. Natural Gas Prices Should Help Low Cost Producer Chesapeake Energy [View article]
Good article, I completely agree on the surge in natural gas exports via pipeline to Mexico being a huge relief valve for US producers. US natural gas pipeline exports to Mexico just hit a record last week, and are already running over 3.5 Bcf/d in June. I'm interested to see what a hot summer down there does to that number.

Here's my piece for those ineresting in the EIA data that supports David's thesis on Mexico: http://seekingalpha.co...
