  • McClendon's new company said to be $924M buyer of Hess Utica gas fields [View news story]
Lets see how long before Aubrey starts consolidating some of the companies in that area. AR, GPOR, and MHR all also actively looking to expand leaseholds in the area. Land values are going up, and those names, plus PDCE should follow land values higher.

Nothing yet. Like I said, I'm guessing its McClendon's new venture. Pretty sure any publicly traded company would have disclosed a purchase of that size.

That comes to about $12,400/acre. Good news for Antero, Gulfport, CHK, which are all close to that region. The real question is who is the buyer? Im guessing McClendon

  • Natural gas tops $5 for first time since 2010, demand should remain high [View news story]
A lot of the coal production is just shifting out west from Appalachia - the death of the industry has been greatly exaggerated, as production is down maybe 13% since 2007 levels, and most of that is from low natural gas prices and the drop in electricity demand from the recession.

As for NG, until the futures curve starts to respond, I'm leaning towards this being a short term reaction to record demand due to record cold temperatures, and not the start of a permanent price spike. Still think prices are stuck in a range from $5.50 on the high end to $3.50 on the low end until export capacity ramps up. Its a traders market.

  • New Pipelines Should Bring The Pipeline, Refining, And Production Businesses More Profits [View article]
"We may see Brent and WTI prices converge on this extra light sweet crude availability. This will save a number of US refineries money."

Wouldnt Brent and WTI converging hurt the refiners that are exporting, especially VLO? They'll lose their cost advantage over foreign refiners...

    Long VLO

  • Phillips 66 says lifting U.S. crude export ban good for refiners, U.S. trade [View news story]
So to reverse the pumps and maybe make some small upgrades, we're talking ~ 6 months, right? As for the Jones Act, that's another law that should likely be re-examined. KEX is a huge beneficiary of that law.

I had no luck on Twitter, so is there anyone on SA who knows if there is even any infrastructure to export crude in the US, or how long it would take to reverse the import terminals? Or would new terminals need to be built? Are we talking weeks, months, years?
