  • Penn Virginia: The Marl Holds Promise [View article]
Yea that Devon deal for GeoSouthern is what I was thinking about too. We'll see how open PVA management is to doing a deal. Thanks again.

    Rich,

Any comments on Soros and his 13D? Since he's pushing for a sale, I think the most likely buyer is someone with abutting acreage, basically one of your "read-across" companies. After all, PVA stock really took off when it bought adjacent acreage from MHR a few years back - i suspect because large contiguous blocks are easier to develop efficiently, and more attractive to larger peers. Given the potential for the Marl to be a seperate play, do you think its prudent to push for a sale of the company now, or further explore and maybe de-risk some of the Marl so PVA doesnt sell out on the cheap?

    Thanks,

    Mike

Can I ask if the IRR numbers are from a company presentation or are those in house, based on your estimates? Those numbers look fantastic, wondering how this play isnt making headlines.

    Thanks

Best buyers would be EOG, Devon, or Marathon based on their proximity. Lets hope Soros is calling all three CEOs today.

  • Refiners slide sharply lower after U.S. widens oil export potential [View news story]
The US would export light sweet crude and import the heavier stuff, since more of our refineries are set up to refine heavier oils. What will likely happen is that the refiners will spend some money to upgrade their facilities to be able to change the condensate enough that it can be exported, and they will begin exporting the condensate, as well as the typical refined products. This is a total over-reaction - these stocks should be down 3-4%, not 7-9%.

Amazing the level of production growth. Horizontal drilling and fracking are changing the global economy, and there are still decades of growth ahead. American ingenuity never ceases to amaze!

They've got to have seen something in the geology that has them excited. You can criticize Evans for a lot, but hes usually very good at buying land on the cheap. Idk, its a wait and see what happens sort of situation.

Not sure, but I'd be surprised if they went much higher. A stronger share price would help their bid, but the stock has been down both times they've made their offer public.

  • Magnum Hunter raises offer for Ambassador Oil [View news story]
"On June 16, 2014, Ambassador announced that shareholders of Ambassador holding approximately 26.43% of Ambassador’s shares, and both Ambassador’s non-executive chairman and managing director (representing approximately 6.34% of Ambassador’s shares), have accepted a competing takeover offer by Drillsearch Energy Limited, an Australian company listed on the ASX (ASX: DLS), to acquire all of the outstanding ordinary (or common) shares of Ambassador. The Company is concerned that such actions have denied Ambassador shareholders the opportunity to participate in the Company’s improved offer and that such acceptances have not taken place in an efficient, competitive and informed market and are inconsistent with the actions that would normally be associated with achieving the best possible outcome for Ambassador shareholders. Consequently, the Company intends to make an application to the Australian Government Takeovers Panel (the “Panel”) in response to the announcement. The Panel regulates corporate control transactions in widely held Australian entities and is the primary forum in Australia for resolving disputes about a takeover bid."

Drillsearch owns ~ 20% of Ambassador. Its going to be hard for MHR to win this, especially given that the MHR offer fluctuates with shares of the company.

The app asks you for your social security number, which is why I stopped trying to sign up. I'd rather gamble on one of the handful of offshore sites where I dont have to give out my social, where I have been gaming for 5+ years already. The NJ casinos give you no reason to choose their offerings over any of the established players.

They're all preferred, but preferred shares with a conversion are different than preferred shares without a conversion. The rates payed will differ based on the terms of the conversion, such as who can force the conversion, and at what price. As with my comment above - I think you are smart enough to know that difference, which makes me think that you are comparing apples to oranges deliberately to attempt to make a point.

I read the Delaware Basin articles - I own a chunk of PXD for the Permian acreage. I just don't think a blanket statement that the TMS is no good (or the best, for that matter) based on a dozen wells is accurate, and then comparing it to the EF is in no way fair. I read a good deal of what you right actually - you definitely have a ton of information compiled, I just disagree with some of the analysis, and the negativity on some of the names you dislike, but that's just me. Two sides to every trade!

The reason there is a difference in yield between HK's investment from Apollo at 8% and the two SN issues and the HK issue is that all three are convertible preferred shares.

I disagree with your dismissal of the TMS, but we'll see how that plays out. The play is still in its infancy, but early results are promising. Comparing it to what EOG is doing in the Eagle Ford is completely unfair, since EOG is a premier operator in a shale play that other companies have had years to perfect, but you seem smart enough that you don't need me to tell you that.
