Odyssey's Hidden Treasure: Chatham Rock Phosphate [View article]
Read the article and it is interesting, but where did those sources come from? Most articles I have read think that phosphate reserves will be here for awhile, and I'm talking about hundreds of years. If the reserves are used up by the time indicated by the chart, then hopefully we will have some new sources to bring up crop yield. I can only hope, but am fairly certain, that if we are a few hundred years from using up all the reserves of phosphate than we should definitely have new sources for fertilizer. I can definitely see either way if the reserves are used up or not the reserves are going to get more and more expensive each year to the countries that want the phosphate the most, survival of the smartest and fittest.

Your perspective is quite awesome and reasonable :) Do not forget about their assets with Chatham Rock Phosphate though. And a small tidbit, CRP:NZ is asking current stock holders to buy $15,000 worth of shares at a marked down price at .33. They are trying to raise the last $9.3 Mil to start production by New Year's Day 2015 or before.

I agree with you scarletibis1. I put in at 3.27 and wish I would have sold around the 4.00 mark, but I also wish that I could buy in now because im holding onto that dulling glimer of hope. To be honest, I have more faith in Chatham Rock Phosphate as a stock that has potential to grow and stay in a level, non-drastically-downward, stock price. Best to all.

Obviously stating the obvious, but OMEX is sure flopping like a fish out of sea. I really hope that its 4th Q and DEC 7th shuts everything else out. I think right now would be a great time to invest in Odyssey's "Holiday(s) Discount."

From what I have read about Morocco, Morocco only has about 300-400 years left of phosphate in reserve. This is not to include their other reserves in other countries which I could not find. New Zealand actually imports one million tons of phosphate each year from Morocco, but they can cut that extra cost from Morocco out if they start mining their own phosphate. Another plus with that is they would be bringing in about 200 million a year because of New Zealand's own exports of phosphate to countries like Australia, Papa New Guinea, and a couple of others.
There really is no assumption to it; the reserves are at a depth of 400 meters deep. It could possibly be expensive to bring it up, but the company that is providing the equipment (Royal Boskalis) to get the phosphate has already a twenty percent ownership in CRP. I don’t know if they are going to charge for bringing it up or just keep their ownership as the profits. It's a bit interesting as well as how they plan to bring up the phosphate, but basically they are vacuuming it up on a ship, then separating it from the nodes on the ship, and after that would bring it to a New Zealand port for unloading and hopes to be in the same place for processing.
If this all goes successfully, CRP would be the first company in the world to successfully dredge at a depth of 400m. Perhaps they could do that with another mineral or the same one in a different location, but I don't if the technique they plan to use is possible for other minerals. I heard a rumor there are quite a bit of minerals to be dredged in the red sea, alas, only a rumor.
Also I need to correct myself on my article. The in site deposit worth is about six billion with exports being approximately 200 million a year and 100 million a year from its own imports.

Maybe someone can clarify this for me, but I have close to thirty thousand shares of CRP through Fidelity. It was the only US stockbroker that I could get New Zealand stocks from. So to the question, if CRP isn't public, then how do I have shares?

So, what does everyone think about the three million shares that OMEX received from Chatham Rock Phosphate? What's your personal opinion on CRP? For only 0.24 cents a share ( NZ Dollar ) and as much sea floor they claim to have and the operating expenses I'm surprised this stock isn't moving.
