Retired at 56 in March 2007 after 30 years with Stanislaus County Superior Court in Modesto CA with a modest lifetime pension, a small 457 in mutual funds, and a tiny Roth IRA in a brokerage acct. Had the Roth invested in the 1990s for a brief time then got busy doing other things.
Got back in the market in Sept 2011 with the Roth and Nov 2011 with the 457 converted to an IRA. I am using a method I dubbed DGI Lite using the Dogs of the CCCs lists for Dividend Growth blended with innate high-yielders such as REITs and BDCs in lieu of cash infusion, since I'm not adding money to either of them any more. I have a lighter view of investing than most, and don't mind a little risk (okay, excitement) in my life.
The handsome dog in my profile picture is one of my 3 German Shepherds, all confident and sociable fellows around 5-6 yrs old. The mostly-black bicolor dog is Rolex, the solid black dog is Solo, and the black/tan fellow is Riker. I have owned, raised, trained and competed with GSDs since 1970. In 2007, a group of us split off from a larger group and founded a separate 501(c)(3) non-profit to rescue German Shepherds from local kill shelters. I am the President and Director of Rescue Ops (as well as WebShepherd, CEO, IT Manager and Chief Cook & Bottle Washer.)
