  • Lee Enterprises' Shares May Double Again [View article]
Hi, thanks for the article. I understand the quantitative aspects of LEE's performance and how it should be valued higher. But can one argue that the market is discounting newspaper stocks in general because of the extreme uncertainty? In that case, the discount would be absolutely valid because it counters LEE's financial strength.

In addition, I think that local media have a news monopoly as opposed to larger ones. For example, if Reuters put an online payment system, readers would simply switch to Bloomberg or something similar. But local news readers have no luxury and would probably have to pay a company like LEE. However, with the rise of technology, how long before "local news" and their weak barrier to entry gets destroyed? It's not too hard for a news company to offer news for free on the net and collect advertising in a local area, and in that case, any "payment local news" would be crushed sooner than later.

    Any comment? Thanks.

Original programming and high short float. I wouldn't bet against this one tonight though.

Haven't seen any, but I do believe this market correction is going to take SBUX to purchase-able levels.

Don't think China's growth for Starbucks is done just yet. This map shows SBUX stores worldwide: http://bit.ly/11aSeld

There's 4-5 times the amount of people in China than in the US, but the US has almost 10 times the amount of stores than China. Obviously, we can't assume that everyone in China is in SBUX's direct target market, but if we assume roughly 300 million people in China as a direct target vs. the amount of relative stores, one can get a sense of potential here.

And this isn't even considering growth that hasn't been explored such as India and other Asian areas.

Hi, the lawsuit stemmed from the ending of a 12-year partnership in which Kraft would sell Starbucks' products. The original agreement is not disclosed publicly. The decision was pushed back a few times, but is currently scheduled for the later half of FY2013.

This is an old article regarding the original fight:

    Hi thanks for the question,

I think you may have misunderstood a little, SBUX does not expect to pay the entire amount of $2.9Bn. Analysts and other public information seems to point out that SBUX will almost definitely not pay $2.9Bn, but at least a sizable amount to make a dent on their bottom line.

No, there is no reserve at the moment regarding the lawsuit.

    Ah I see, my mistake.

The comps/historical data were pulled from Bloomberg and processed on excel. The historical graphs showing SBUX vs. Comps P/E and EV/EBITDA are pulled straight from Bloomberg. The sensitivity tables are basically outputs from the DCF model that I made.

    Hope this clears things up.

DCF and multiples, assumptions are shown in the screen snaps. So yes, in a sense, screen snaps.

Yeah I agree completely with the growth left in SBUX. I think that all of their growth strategies, and initiatives such as more food options, loyalty cards and more product sales from grocery store channels is really going to drive EPS in the upcoming years.

I think that Starbucks realizes that they must focus on local tastes when expanding overseas because the preferences are drastically different. But with the tea market in general, their Teavana acquisition really provides a competitive platform.
