  • The Top 35 Dividend Champions With Regard To Long-Term Stock Price Appreciation [View article]
Craig, thank you. I will be sure to check out your recent article and any future ones that you right along these lines. Compiling statistics can become tedious so I hope that you are able to enjoy yourself somehow while doing so (its really not all that difficult, just brain numbly boring). The results, however, are not boring and I enjoy trying to spot and follow trends. Best of luck and wishes to you.

No problem. I don't necessarily like putting together spreadsheets and whatnot but I do enjoy the research aspect of something like this. I agree with you about MCD and CLX. There were a few other 3%+ yielders that I had hoped to see. Thank you for your comment.

Thank you sir, the work you do inspired this article and much of my investing education thus far. The higher the batting average of the Champions list the better, for those of us who've taken an interest in dividend growth.

I am a big fan of waiting for pullbacks as well (although it can be frustrating). Don't start those positions just on my account, these are merely suggestions meant to inspire. I do feel strongly that energy is undervalued. Do your due diligence and best of luck to you.

Ray, thanks and I agree with Mr. Thomas as well. I like to look at management effectiveness numbers before making any investment. I'm really interested to see how this expansion into Canada works out. Congrats on your '84 position - a great decision.

Smurf, thank you for your comment. These stocks might be overvalued in regard to the overall market but not to their peers who offer a high level of perceived safety. I wasn't trying to give readers an opportunity to shoot for the moon here, but to move their money into the market safely with what I determine to be a very good chance to make a profit.

I live in a college town and many of the students shop at Whole Foods as well - don't forget that the younger generation is becoming more health conscious too.

Kirsh, thank you for your comment. I took a look at WMT from that era and you are right - the situation is similar from a fundamental standpoint. Since 1999 WMT has offered investors a 2.4% annualized shareholder return (with dividends reinvested). The S&P 500's return over the same period was 2.5%. So, I agree, I would hope to do better with my money. I also think WFM has more growth in store for itself and this is why I like them so much right now. If the multiples continue to rise, then I agree that it might be time to take profits or at least trim the position. Its a balancing act.

You're right, it's worth pondering. I would say that we all have to eat and I don't see a move back towards an agrarian society happening anytime soon. Someone will be selling humans food. I think that the cream will rise to the top in this industry that struggles and I expect WFM to be apart of this.

Do you think that with this shift in efficiency WFM will benefit in regards to profits/gross margin as well? I do. Its hard to teach an old dog new tricks and I think that the switch to natural foods for the conventional stores will be clumsy.
