I'm an Engineer from New Zealand, recently moved back to the homeland after 4 years of living in Switzerland. I've a little under a decade of experience in product development in the energy industry; most of it relating to grid interactive power electronics applied to a range of applications including electric vehicle fast charging and grid battery energy storage; both with engineering multinational ABB. More recently I led the engineering activities through to V1.0 product launch at Ampard, an energy storage startup. Now I split my time between consulting work and my own projects, the foremost of which is www.tradifex.com, a trade optimization framework (currently under development). I've been dabbling in stocks from time to time for the last ten years - early efforts led to burnt fingers, leading to a more cautious approach and positive results in recent years. I greatly admire and respect Warren Buffet and agree with his philosophy that you should buy companies you understand and believe in... but at the same time I'm not blind to the impact of sentiment. Between doing my homework and applying a few analytical tools I've been coding in my spare time I try to make out ok.

"Absolute certainty about the future is for madmen."
"The First Great Fraud is the idea that individuals in wealthy countries can change anything by putting an electric car in their garage, with or without solar panels on the roof. These are vanity purchases, cute ego boosting symbols that make no meaningful contribution to the common good, the environment or the overall health of the planet. Buyers can make themselves feel virtuous, but senseless symbolism can't make a difference on a planetary scale. It's like trying to fight a hurricane with Depends."
This is unfortunately necessary because a small minority of douchebags feel they're entitled to.........please feel free to fill in the blank.
I hold a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment (similar to CFA), and a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning.
I have 30 years of personal investing experience, and 17 years of professional financial advising experience, including trading experience at ETrade Australia, 6 years as a Senior Financial Planner at Commonwealth Bank of Australia and 10 years at High Net Worth Financial Advising. My business is a mix of young clients growing their wealth, pre-retirees, and retirees wanting income, some growth, and safety. As a global investor I use a macro thematic approach searching for good value and/or high growth. I search the globe for great investments with a focus on Asia, Emerging and Frontier Markets as well as "trend investing". I assess a countries demographics and growth potential. Some trends I currently follow include the rising Asian middle class, electric vehicles and the lithium/cobalt/graphite/nickel/copper miners, renewable energy, energy storage, smartphones, 3D printing, and personal robots.
I also love to invest in income producing investments that can grow over time and benefit from compounding....Included here are the near monopoly businesses such as the stock exchanges, and the high quality income producers.
I use direct shares, ETFs, mutual funds and some direct property investments.
