    silicium,

Try to think longer-term. If the company has a product that has a strong competitive edge, along with the solid company fundamentals, the share price will reflect its real value eventually.. but sometimes, it just take a long time and requires a lot of patience from investors.

    Hawkeyes 2011,

You are correct. Buy and hold would be the most simple, cost-effective strategy for quality stock like QCOM. However, options do have the leverage of reducing capital requirement. Sellers also have the time leverage on their side. To put it short, you are correct that buying stock and hold forever if possible is a great way for long-term. My reviewed options strategy is mainly for investors who want to find a better entry price while gaining some upside potential.

    tllutrue,

It is possible, but I would think it is more of covered calls (if it's indeed short calls), which means buying stock and shorting calls at the same time. GG is not showing a bearish trend technically and writing uncovered call does not have a favorable risk/reward ratio right now.. But again, it is possible.

    sabresfan21,

Yes, Corning did not move much in past three years despite recovery of major indices. Corning is a very old company and it needs products like Gorilla Glass to revive itself and boost its growth.

    hermanbrut,

Thanks for bringing up this question. The number for the chance of breakeven was quoted from Morningstar.

The definition will be quoted below, http://bit.ly/TEErCR

The probability that a stock will be trading beyond the breakeven price as implied by the option price.

Chance of Breakeven can be used to get a sense for the valuation of the option by comparing the market’s estimate of Chance of Breakeven to estimates derived from your own fundamental research.

If you believe the Chance of Breakeven is less than the probability that a stock will be beyond the breakeven price at option expiration, then you believe the option is undervalued, and vice versa.

    Hope that clarifies.

    OldWarrior,

Thanks for the update and will look into Peter's work. Market Maker indeed has different level of hedging requirement as compared to retail investors.

    OldWarrior,

Yes, exactly, it is the idea of "insurance" on stock that explains all. Institutions mainly use options to hedge, not to speculate. As for the diversification/asset allocation, it is the best and most simple way to reduce risks.

    OldWarrior,

If that happens, the stock holders will suffer much more without hedging.. and we definitely don't want to see that happens for bulls..

    OldWarrior,

    Thanks for your update.

Yes, April 20 3.5/3.0 put are .3 and .15 with $4.18 closing for NOK on Friday. If you set up the credit spread yesterday at the quoted prices, you would receive .15 credit premium minus whatever the commission you paid. Both options are Out-of-Money as we are betting on that NOK won't fall below $3.50 by April 20.

  • Clearwire Completes Sprint Nextel: A Great Buy With Reduced Risks [View article]
    benitus,

Good job! You actually explained the situation in a very simple, easy-to-understand way! That is exactly what's happening between Sprint, Clearwire, and SoftBank. That's the basic concept to go bullish on S and the rest is much more technical.
