Special dividend came out of EVOL price today. Adjusted for the div, it's up from $5.05 to $6.00 for a 19% gain in 1 month. Not selling yet.

    • Malt Backbone: Ocean, did you receive your EVOL payout yet? I thought it was yesterday, but it's not showing in my account yet.

    • Ocean Man: Yes, I did receive the dividend yesterday. I'm used to seeing dividends of $20 or $30, so I noticed when one for $7,000 appeared LOL!

    • Crate Mayne: Still waiting on my dividend :-( Also looks like EVOL is doing a great deal of their stock repurchasing today.

    • sean.parmelee: I'm getting the feeling that the information out there about the record/ex-div dates was wrong for this stock. I sold after the record date

    • sean.parmelee: (12/12) but did not receive the dividend. The fact that the $2 didn't get priced in until this week makes no sense.

    • sean.parmelee: Also, if you look at Google Finance, the dividend shows up twice--first on 12/12, then again on 1/4. What gives?

    • Ocean Man: There's a little-known Nasdaq rule that if a special dividend is more than 25% of the share price, the ex-div date has to be the day after

    • Ocean Man: the pay date. This is to prevent tax evasion (deduct the loss, pay a lower rate on the div). You had to hold from record date through pay

    • Ocean Man: date to receive the dividend (obviously you can't sell before the $2 comes out of the share price and get the $2 dividend).

    • Ocean Man: That said, mine is acting funny. I got it credited on the 3rd, and then again on the 4th (paid twice), then both were backed out on the 5th.

    • sean.parmelee: I don't blame you for my mistakes, but for the record, we had a conversation about this at the time, and I pointed out that dividend.com

    • sean.parmelee: listed the ex-div date as 1/4/12 and you claimed it was the same as always, two days before record date. I think others here may have

    • sean.parmelee: Fortunately the stock was basically flat between the time the div was announced and the record date, so I didn't lose much.

    • Ocean Man: I'd never heard of that Nasdaq rule before, but it was pretty obvious that the $2 didn't come out of the price in December. Somebody else

    • Ocean Man: posted a Stocktalk saying the company website had a FAQ explaining the situation, and several of us discussed it there. I'd still like to

    • Ocean Man: know why anyone was buying it between the record date and Jan 4th, knowing it was going to drop $2 and not being eligible for the dividend.

    • Ocean Man: About 20,000 shares a day were trading for several weeks. Very strange. Learning experience for me too.

    • bkamjoo: do you know anything new about EVOL?
      2/10/12
    • Ocean Man: No, I was disappointed that it didn't bounce back after the div came out. No loss, but less gain than I expected. A Forbes article came out

    • Ocean Man: this week saying it's trading under book value, that might be helping a bit. I sold most of mine, but still hold a couple hundred shares.
