  • Why The Rate Of Growth In U.S. Oil Production Is Going To Slow Significantly [View article]
The author's prediction is something to remember, but in my opinion it is a couple of years early. The author makes some good points in showing what production growth will look like in the Bakken and other shale plays once the number of wells drilled per year becomes relatively stable. But the Bakken is only just now beginning to reach that point. The drilling rate in the Bakken has grown rapidly each year the last several years. As a result, even with a stable drilling rate from here on out, the production rate in the Bakken will still grow pretty quickly for a few more years, although the rate of growth will indeed slow some. In other words, the Bakken is only in Year 1 of the 10-year Production Ramp Figure. I have roughly modeled it out myself and my figures came out to be relatively close to what Lynn Helms of the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources has been projecting -- still quick growth for a few years before starting to level off, perhaps around 1.2 million barrels per day.

  • WTI Oil Prices Are Going Over $100 In 2013 [View article]
Like Devon, I am also bullish on oil prices for 2013. Investment and oil production growth in the Bakken have been accelerated due to desires to hold land by production. Investment and production there will stabilize and not continue such rapid growth. In addition to the points mentioned in this article, I think another factor will be increased US oil demand due in part to the improving US housing market leading a slowly improving US economy. It doesn't take much improvement in the fundamentals for fairly quick increases in oil prices.

  • Weather Could Drive Natural Gas Prices Over $4 Before Year End [View article]
This was an excellent article, giving investors a chance to get a jump on a potentially very profitable short term trade. Now is a good time to invest in natural gas stocks. The current very low price will not last long as the weather returns to normal. There is much more upside than downside.

  • Whose Interests Were Put First In Freeport McMoRan's Acquisition Of McMoRan? [View article]
As stated in your article, MMR has potential natural gas resources of 130 trillion cubic feet. FCX got that for just a little over $2 billion. If you're a believer in MMR's assets (which FCX's board apparently is), then it's a tremendous deal for FCX, taking opportunistic advantage of MMR's lack of funding. As an MMR shareholder, I thought MMR was worth a lot more, and that FCX is a good buy now.

  • Freeport-McMoRan: Sell-Off Is Justified; Acquisitions Have Little Strategic Rationale [View article]
I agree with bankstocks. Picking up some MMR in order to keep the royalty trust share for less than $1 net has a lot of upside that I think will eventually pan out.

  • Important Utica Shale Results In Ohio Coming Soon [View article]
Gulfport posted excellent results today in Belmont County with their Shugert well. This bodes well for GPOR, HES, and possibly CNX acreage in Belmont County.

  • Important Utica Shale Results In Ohio Coming Soon [View article]
Gulfport announced excellent results for its Shugert well in western Belmont County today: peak rate of 20 MMcf, about 2000 barrels NGLs, and 144 barrels condensate, totalling 4913 boe/day peak rate after ethane shrinkage. This looks good for the CNX and HES acreage in Belmont County, as well as for GPOR. The Boy Scout well GPOR announced last month was also excellent, and less gassy: 7 MMcf, about 1500 barrels/day condensate, and about 1000 barrels NGLs/day, totalling about 3500 boe/day. GPOR significantly raised its production estimate for exiting 2012. I think GPOR is an excellent buy here. I am long GPOR, CNX, HES, and CHK.

  • Latest EIA Data Shows Resilient U.S. Natural Gas Production [View article]
I pretty much agree with Christopher's comment here (although improved well/rig productivity and rising associated natural gas volumes from liquids drillings are factors as well). With a gas rig count below 500, production volume won't stay this high for too long; they're being temporarily boosted now by the hooking up of prior wells drilled. Now is a good time to invest in natural gas. I expect prices to be higher come winter.

Gulfport announced excellent well results for its first well just across the Harrison County line, causing their share price to jump today. From their release after the close yesterday:
"Gulfport recently brought online its first horizontal well in the Utica Shale, testing at a peak rate of 17.1 million cubic feet ("MMCF") per day of natural gas, 432 barrels of condensate per day and 1,881 barrels of NGL per day assuming full ethane recovery and a natural gas shrink of 18%, or 4,650 BOEPD." Chesapeake's results in Carroll and other counties continue to be okay, but not great.

  • James River Coal: Now Might Be A Good Time To Go To Cash [View article]
Sometimes the greater risk gives a greater reward. Cashed out of my small PCX position today, though, after the sharp rise the last 2 days. Still holding onto my JRCC position.

This is news to me, and would be illogical. Why would a court decide to apply its prior reasoning to a new case before evaluating a motion to reconsider whether its reasoning was correct? If you know of an easy way to view the Harrison County court docket other than wait until filings get published, that would be appreciated.

Courts can be unpredictable. It will be interesting to see how it decides to handle the Buell motion.

This is an interpretation by a lower level Ohio court, so I wouldn't extrapolate it to other states. It goes against interpretations given in other states. See the link in the article above for Chesapeake's motion for reconsideration, which discusses how it is different from other courts' interpretations.
