I'm hard at work, putting together a new start-up, a national chain of MAASL schools (Mandarin As A Second Language).

  • 10 Dividend Stocks to Buy Now [View article]
    David Van Knapp,

Your comment brought to mind M*'s Dividend Investor, something they started a few years ago. A bout 2 years ago, they divided their portfolio into 2, called "Harvest" and "Builder".

Harvest focuses on stocks currently paying a high yield, for those who are currently retired, or very close to it.

Builder invests in stocks that have a lower current yield, but can be reasonably expected to raise their dividend in years to come, so buy the time the investor is ready to retire and access the income stream, the return on cost should be quite attractive.

As you say, different strokes for different folks...*s*.

"The dollar's days as the unchallenged reserve currency are numbered as the euro and the Chinese renminbi assume bigger roles, World Bank president Robert Zoellick said Monday. Zoellick's speech was unusually provocative,"

The Chinese are issuing another block of yuan denominated government bonds, via Hong Kong. Earlier issues met with mixed results, but the fact they keep going to the well says something.

"I guess they’re the easy target because the company flat out gets the smartest, most Machiavellian young people on the planet to join its ranks, and it’s been that way not just for years, but for decades."

Being the "smartest" is certainly a good thing, and something to aspire to. Being "most Machiavellian" is, at best, a left-handed compliment, and something only a REAL POS would aspire to.

  • 3 Ways to Prepare for a Possible Market Decline [View article]
Regarding the increase in forclosures....the other day, there was a piece in Bloomie about exactly that happening (a spike in forclosures, as the moratorium on them ends).

I also found it of interest that the official release of the results of the stress test have been pushed back.

Finally, we've got a resumption if BFF (Bank Failure Fridays) as its called on the Calculated Risk blog. So far, they been smaller institutions, so its below the MSM radar, for now. (Btw, we're up to 31 failed banks, as of 5:50 pm, CDT, and there's often later announcements from the west coast).

  • S&P 500 Watch: March 'Winners' Are Actually the Biggest Losers [View article]
Aside from short covering in the worst of the worst, I wonder if the "stinkers" had the most to gain by the various stimulus packages being floated by the administration, which would also boost their market performance.
