@Geddy I agree not as difficult. But I would say tower placement is unproven -- since 700 MHz works so well it might need extra tuning/placement to avoid interference. (As in, it might be too good for its own good -- interfering with its own signals)
Most of this is conjecture, since AT&T and VZ haven't detailed plans yet. Also remember they really don't have that much spectrum -- 20~24 MHz each -- so again they may be limited by what they can do in rollouts.
Bottom line, I think there is more to the LTE move than we have heard so far, and wouldn't want to bet my own money on VZ meeting its blue-sky deadlines.
@Wirelezz you make it sound too simple -- LTE will require all new IP infrastructure gear (routers, switches), much more backhaul than is currently put into towers... and maybe new tower sites given that the 700 MHz spectrum that will be used might not work at existing cell placements. And we haven't even started talking about how much LTE devices or service plans will cost... especially if they have to be subsidized a la the iPhone.
@Geddy yes the telcos have deep pockets but they are also trying to roll out fiber for video services... since their landline profits are rapidly vanishing... so I still don't see them ponying up the billions necessary for LTE rollouts anytime soon; it's simply not as big a priority as getting the big-dollar video customers signed up.
