I think you're underestimating the power of prices on demand destruction, as you call it. Just look at the diminution already taking place in the form of consumers changing their vehicle buying patterns and driving fewer miles. And that's without any alternative technologies or additional oil and gas resources having yet come on line. As we move inexorably toward $6-8 a gallon gasoline, I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised at the eventual outcome. (...Ah, the rules of economics are beautiful to watch sometimes, aren't they!)
