Avery Dennison upped to overweight at J.P. Morgan

(MarketWatch) — Analysts at J.P. Morgan lifted their rating Friday on Avery Dennison Corp. (AVY 27.91, +0.48, +1.75%) to overweight from neutral and hiked their price target on the stock to $33 from $25.

In a note to clients, they wrote that they believe the Pasadena, Calif.-based provider of labels, retail tags, branding systems and office supplies “is well positioned for a period of margin expansion as demand rebounds from cyclically depressed levels.” Shares of Avery Dennison ended Thursday at $27.43

  • Tutor Perini: A Constructive Options Play at a Value Price [View article]

You should be able to close the Oct. $12.50 puts for 20 cents and sell the Jan. $17.50 puts for $2.10.

You'll get a $190 credit per contract and have no increase in exposure as judged by share count.

If you want to 'roll up' the puts to the higher strike without increasing your exposure you'll need to close out the old $12.50 puts before selling the new $17.50's.

You can either roll up the existing calls (at a debit) or simply leave them alone, knowing the shares are almost certain to be called in October.

If you do that, the new, higher priced, puts would essentially be replacing the shares you'll be selling (but at a lower price than outright purchase at today's quote). In that case you really don't need to buy back those $12.50 puts at all. Just let them expire.

Any analysis that could take a "valuation" from negative $340/share to "slightly positive" in a three month period is totally worthless.

  • Two Asset Management Companies Still Have Room for a Rebound [View article]
I'll give the most weight to their basic business value which is growing rapidly as asset prices inflate. The lawsuit is 'old news' as far as already being reflected in the unit price.

I can't imagine many investors caring about that when they choose which funds to buy or hold.

Ultimately AB will trade based on earnings and yield and, on that basis, I see at least a double over the next 3 - 5 years on top of all the distributions. A triple is not out of the question in my view.
