  • Why I Bought Interactive Brokers [View article]
As a general rule I always stay away from companies with adverse opinions over internal controls so I cannot even consider Interactive Brokers at this time.

  • Apple's Q4 Depends On iPhone Release [View article]
    Hi Bill,

Solid article as always but one point - "Current estimates are for about 23 million iPhones to be sold in the quarter, but most of those estimates do not have the new phone being released until October."

I think any analyst worth his salt his accounted for a September release as the rumored Sept 21 launch has been circulating for around a month. Whether their estimates of sales are accurate is another debate.

  • Is This Dividend ETF Right For You? Part 2: HDV [View article]
Precisely my concern. You have some high quality names but it appears that iShares has overdiversified here and the yield suffers as a result.

  • High-Yield Ex-Dividend Opportunities To Consider And Avoid [View article]
You are correct that the dividend is increased incrementally but that still comes out to less than a penny per year which is insignificant. With the yield above ten percent I am content.

  • Enhanced Income Strategy For VF Corporation - Update 4 [View article]
"Today I want to recommend selling a put option contract that expires on February 15, 2013 with a strike price of $140 and collect a premium of $7.50 per share (prices are quoted at the end of trading on Monday, August 20, 2012), which works out to about $741 after paying a commission. If the option expires worthless our return will be 5.3 percent over a holding period of about six months, or an annualized return of about 10.6 percent."

Ordinarily I would not write a put like this for a low relative return but I am long VFC and I quite bullish on the prospects so I think the risk is relatively low. Good play.

Interactive missed the filing of the recent Q. This is a strong warning sign.

Agreed. I see no explanation of how this is a "bold move" by Apple.

  • Great Recession II Portfolio: How I Generated A 34% Return Last Year [View article]
Thank you for the comments. I focused on these five stocks as they provide quite a great bit of diversification considering the limited size of the portfolio. Naturally you should purchase additional stocks but you will likely notice diminishing benefits as your portfolio approaches ten securities.

  • Netflix Hits New 52 Week Low: What's Next? [View article]
Look at the rate of subscriber loss for the DVD business. Consumers prefer online streaming over physical media.

  • Netflix Hits New 52 Week Low: What's Next? [View article]
The DVD business will essentially be dead in two to three years so that is a moot point.

The Netflix interface is looking long in the tooth compared to competitors such as Hulu Plus.

  • Hard Disk Drive Manufacturers Poised To Make A Killing [View article]
Great article. Spending on cloud storage will keep WDC and STX growing for a long time. In its last quarter over 75% of WDC's HDD sales went to the client space.
