Bernstein ups AMZN price target while lowering profit projections. It figures.

    • Paulo Santos: Woo, cut EPS estimate from $1.89 to $0.95 for the year, brutal.

    • Paulo Santos: Someone ought to do a study on AMZN's relative strength and the emergence of these price target upgrades.
      8/14/12
    • Paulo Santos: It would seem that these show up when the stock shows weak relative strength, as it had been doing.

    • Paulo Santos: It's funny to pump the thing on "margin prospects" while LOWERING profit estimates 2 years down the road.

    • Whitehawk: Has anyone on SA done a DCF analysis (using assumptions) on AMZN ?
      8/14/12
    • Paulo Santos: DCFs can produce whatever you want them to produce.
      8/14/12
    • J Mintzmyer: Exactly on the DCF, but AMZN is priced beyond perfection. A company can do this when they post the rapid revenue growth that AMZN has....
      8/14/12
    • Paulo Santos: Well, there are a lot of companies with revenue growth in AMZN's ballpark. There are not so many with imploding earnings AND AMZN valuation
      8/14/12
    • Paulo Santos: There's a single company over $10 billion in mkt cap which has a TTM P/E above AMZN's. That's LNKD. But LNKD has earnings going up,not down.
      8/14/12
    • J Mintzmyer: Short both of 'em Paulo. Hard to take earnings at LNKD seriously when we're in the single digit pennies and they have a such small moat.
      8/14/12
    • Paulo Santos: I usually don't short companies where the fundamental trends are still in their favor, no matter the valuation.

    • Paulo Santos: Obviously, if it fell it wouldn't surprise me.
