Our initial research is done by using the power of free cash flow as our guide. We use two ratios to do our initial screening and they are;

1) Price to Free Cash Flow

2) Free Cash Flow Return on Invested Capital

Once our initial screening is done, a list of companies is generated that meet our criteria. This list we then exhaustively analyze using the methods of Philip A. Fisher (the father of qualitative analysis). Qualitative analysis concentrates on finding superior management and then determining the quality of the organization that they have set up.

Very few companies can pass our stringent analysis, thus we feel very confident in the future of the companies that we do recommend. Due to the fact that only a few companies pass our test, we do not believe in large diversification.

Besides analyzing companies using our bottom up approach , we also do a top down analysis of the economic environment in which they operate.

Until companies that meet our criteria are found we choose to keep our clients in cash. We also never invest in financial firms unless a free cash flow analysis can be done on them. Had Wall Street adopted this strategy in 2008, the losses it suffered, by not having the ability to analyze financials properly, would definitely been curtailed.
