I like the idea of bond funds but you still need some exposure to the equities market. Over time stocks have proven to be the best performing asset class.

Thanks for the kind words. I agree with the need for term insurance for the breadwinner of the family especially if children are involved. I was basing the article off of myself: 24 and unmarried with no kids.

Term insurance for a healthy individual in their 20 -30s should be extremely cheap. The proliferation of the insurance industry online has considerably dropped the price of Term insurance over the past decade. This means that there is really no excuse for a young family to protect themselves by taking out a term policy.

$1 dollar spent today could be $5 dollars one day by allowing your money to accumulate and compound . It is a key concept to understand. However, it is one that many seem to have forgotten. This is one of the main principals Warren Buffet lives his life by. Not a bad example to follow.

Thanks for your comments. Free cash flow is quickly becoming one of my favorite metrics to analyze companies with. I do really like MO as well as the majority of the tobacco industry. It is just that saving and paying for grad school has taken priority in my discretionary income at this point in time. But when I can I plan to initiate some positions assuming I still like the fundamentals of the company.

All I know is that for cash strapped consumers who are craving an iPhone, the price drop is a godsend.

I agree with you Rocco, I haven't seen anything different in RIMM's story to change my mind on my negative outlook for the company's future.

I can certainly understand your position given the poor returns of CTL stock price over the last year compared to its competitors. For certain it is a more risky play than VZ and T which I also like.
    (CTL= -30.32%.,VZ=1.73%,T= - 3.64%)

However, I think there might be an opportunity here. I see CTL's valuations coming down to attractive levels with this fall in price.

    PE Ratios: (CTL =15.87-18.07 VZ =16.33-14.05 T= 8.24-11.15)

    Price to Owner's Earnings: (CTL =7.07 VZ =16.43 T= 20)

Here is an interesting article that takes a positive outlook on CTL. Not sure if you have seen it yet.( http://seekingalpha.co... )

Like I said I do see it as a more speculative of a play than T or VZ, but how often do you see a dividend champion fall to such attractive price to owners earnings levels?

We are talking about different measures of diversification. In choosing these companies, I was looking to diversify throughout several industries and sectors. You seem to be talking about systematic risk which cannot be diversified away, hence why it also commonly known as "un-diversifiable risk" . It is the risk inherent to the entire market so there is no way to get away from it no matter how many equities you choose.

This is simply a basket of diversified equities. Any properly put together portfolio should also have a mix of bonds and cash at different levels depending on an investor's specific situation.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the comments. I also am a fan of PM. It was the higher yield and longevity that actually led me to choose MO. They are still both great companies. Truth be told I'm also a fan of RAI with its high yield and low leverage.
