    Barrons' on FLTX:

ONE CONSISTENT CRITIC of the sky-high valuations of the new darlings is Paul Wick, who has been managing the Columbia Seligman Communications and Information fund (SLMCX) since 1989. He questions how FireEye will fare in a market of established security technology vendors with its outsize valuation. "Exciting technology," he says, "but Check Point [Software Technologies] (CHKP) and Palo Alto Networks (PANW) will be trying to emulate what they've done and achieving a result that's 'good enough.' "

"If I were the CEO [of FireEye], I'd be counting the days until the IPO lock-up expiration," meaning, when insiders are allowed to sell shares.

Of Textura, Wick offers with a wry chortle that the stock fetches "only" 19 times next year's projected revenue, a discount to Workday's valuation. "Time to load up!" he cracks.

Wick reserves his greatest scorn for FleetMatics (FLTX), which uses cloud-based software to help companies track fleets of trucks. A week ago it did its third offering since its IPO last October. The shares actually sold off following the offering, falling from $46 to $38, following a report by a firm known as Prescience Point that claims accounting "shenanigans."

However: "Even if the accounting is legitimate, the stock is still significantly overvalued," Wick says.

Shares trade at 36 times next year's projected earnings and six times revenue.

As Wick implies, there is something of a bubble in many—if not all—of these cloud companies. Right now euphoria and novelty are lifting them sky-high, but the skies could darken soon, and investors should be wary of a downpour.
