Not sure wind power will bring down any countries! It is a big capital outlay, especially the deeper offshore farms they are proposing in the United Kingdom, but then again, nuclear power plants aren't exactly cheap either, and GE builds plenty of the parts for those too!

I am under the impression GE is an industrial conglomerate with many division doings many things. Manufacturing is certainly a key part of their business, so why wouldn't they want to manufacture wind turbines? GE is just supply a product that is in demand from large utilities in many parts of the world...
Fair point WD216, the correct official name is BP. I however am fairly confident most people understand that both names refer to the same company leaking oil into the Gulf at an alarming rate.

Hi Wireless Wiz. It would appear to be an inaccuracy in our story. It was not announced by Verizon, but was reported by Bloomberg. I have asked Seeking Alpha editors to correct to error.
BP seems to stand for many things to many people at the moment. I think it would be very likely that the UK Government would not step in if an offer arrived for BP. They let Cadbury go without much of a fight not long ago, despite considerble protests.

Paladin has been the subject of takeover speculation for some time, I don't see the current update about the shareholder register as an 'obvious pump'. There is ample takeover specuation in the uranium sector in general for any junior or mid-tier producer as state back entities look to gain security of supply through acquisitions, (French or Russin backed entities are often hunters) or in other cases, like Rio Tinto and Rossing South in Namibia, there are more strategic reasons why the acquisition of Extract Resources would be compelling.

I would agree that there are a lot of high cost silver miners kicking around, and many a mining junior has succumbed to buying a historic silver mine to take advantage of higher silver prices only to lose their shirt on the higher volatility in silver prices.

A lot of offshore wind is an understatement in my opinion. UK offshore is often referred to as one of the best places in the world for development potential.
Onshore is another story, its less expensive to develop, but at least in Europe, the their ability to generate power reliably is more of an issue, and in some parts of the EU, permitting is a major hurdle.
Interesting to note that to date solar power firms have opted for listing in the United States. Last week a European focused solar wafer manufacturer announced its intention to London.. will be interesting to see how it is received.
