Steffens has grown up in New Jersey and currently is a successful entrepreneur. His family is deeply effected by the ill effects of diabetes. This lifelong experience of watching his sister struggle has spurned an interest in the biotech and life science sector. In particular, Steffens is interested in new diabetes treatments and the efforts to develop therapeutic cancer vaccines. Steffens holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Communications from Montclair State University.

Steffens spends considerable time researching new drug candidates and often from the most precocious of companies. Steffens enjoys following these small biotechs as they attempt to navigate the high regulatory and financial hurdles associated with research and development of a potential new drug.
