  • InterOil: Three Strikes, You're Out, And A Beanball To The Head On The Way Back To The Dugout? [View article]
Good joke on Shell, if true. Puts them on the hook for $10+ billion capex.

  • Natural Gas And Dry Gas Producers Are Years From A Recovery [View article]
Geologically off the wall, bub. You should know better, that a dry gas play has no oil leg. Conventional gas production in the GOM is in steep decline, no new wells, and onshore dry gas shale drillers are losing their shirts. Oil is the whole game going forward, with the exception of Marcellus for a few more years.

  • InterOil: The Stars Are Aligned For A Takeover Battle To Ensue In The Coming Weeks [View article]
I looked at the options chain. $5 million in mid- to late September calls at 80 and 90 and 100 is nothing to sneeze at, so a number of players are expecting a news announcement soon. Could be BTFD. Could be a short term speculative play. All they need is a bounce to 75 to cover the premium.

It is conceivable that Exxon will make an offer to take some gas at some point in the distant future, which IOC will trumpet as a done deal, regardless of XOM opt-out terms and conditions. The tribal leader of Gulf State has been holding out for Mulacek's pledge of an IOC-operated LNG project. That seems unlikely, but quite possible that there's been some political payola factored. Speculation on my part. I don't have any inside information. No position long or short.

My best guess is that Oil Search has 3 tcf more supply offshore now, and IOC's bargaining position is worse. Ultimately it's a PNG political football. InterOil is at the end of its funding rope. Something will have to be done to save them.

    Nationalisation?

CWSX picked the drilling locations at Flinders. Oil Search is drilling two more wells to prove the areal extent. Looks like a nice new field they can tie in.

Ray, you're mistaken about SEC requiring outside verification of reserves.

  • Why We're Short Oil [View article]
I doubt the "oil industry manager" spiel about gas. Entirely separate markets. Insistence on rig counts as predictive of anything is a little goofy, too. I'm beginning to think you have the correct result with faulty premises. I don't feel like explaining why. Since you don't work in the oil patch ("most studies") it would be a long slog. Short version: recession = demand destruction.
