As a contributor to the New Low Observer (http://www.newlowobserver.com/about-this-site), we intend to give new insights on a low risk approach to trading in dividend paying stocks for tax deferred accounts. The New Low Observer (http://www.newlowobserver.com/about-this-site) is not intended for regular or non-qualifying accounts however, the strategies and stocks mentioned can be used for non-qualifying accounts with the understanding of the consequences of potential short-term capital gains as well as the need for exceptional documentation for IRS purposes.
I have a professional background of working with the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Bear Stearns, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Although I am an economist (and probably because of that fact), I am adept at being resourceful and thinking in a multidisciplinary fashion. For this reason, my professional experience only reflects a wide perspective that I have gained through the years and should not connote an air of authority.
Recently retired from the information technology industry. Held numerous senior executive positions in hardware, software and service businesses. Primary industry/geo focus has been Financial Services in North America and Europe. Enjoy photography, golf, travel, climbing mountains, fitness and learning new things....but having said all that my family always comes first.
Couple of my favorite quotes...
"You have never really lived until you have done something for someone that can never repay
you." - Unknown
"Because in the end you won't remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing
your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain." - Jack Kerouac
I have worked in the buy side at two major investment firms for the past 6 years. I trade my own accounts daily and am currently studying for part 2 of the CFA.
I am skeptical by nature, and there's nothing I trust less in this world than big gov't.
I am a true believer in Capitalism and the tremendous increases in standard of living we've had as a result. Why in the world people endorse socialist policies when they've never worked in history is beyond me.
You've also discovered another passion of mine...politics.
Anyway, I have an open mind. I try to use facts, logic, and historical precedence to frame my arguments and my beliefs. However, I'm a human being and emotion sometimes sneaks its way into my words. If you think I'm wrong, I invite you to use the same tools as me (facts, logic and historical examples) to try and change my mind. It wouldn't be the first time it's happened!

I am a value investor to the greatest extent possible. I also favor dividend stocks. I try to be a buy-and-hold investor, but sometimes I can't avoid the tempation to ring the register or to accumulate the inevitable tax loss. The main thing I have learned is that I have lost more money by selling too soon than for any other reason. I reside in Henderson, NV.
Opportunistic stock market investor interested in both long and short ideas across all sectors, geographies and asset classes. I invest in both core / long term positions in high ROIC situations with barriers to entry and the the potential to compound over longer periods of time while taking share during weak economic / market environments complimented with smaller allocations to situations with the potential for very high "right tail" returns.
