  • How To Maximize Your Gains From Apple Earnings [View article]
I just opened a weekly iron condor, sold the 400 put, bought the 395, sold the 440 call, bought the 445, this afternoon will prove if this was the right thing to do and win $225 per contract, or if I lose $275.

  • When you look at the basic fundamentals, stocks are trading at their cheapest levels since 1990, observes Bespoke Investment Group. According to the firm’s 2012 outlook report, once investors realize it, the ensuing buying spree should push the S&P 500 by 11% to 1,400, or possibly even more, by the end of the year.  [View news story]
Yeah, after a couple of hits of acid, you can really see stocks being cheaper than, say, 2009, 2010 or last year when they were below 1,100. If you don´t understand why 1,315 is cheaper than 1,100 then you haven´t had enough Kool-aid.

Avoid CX except for short-term speculative plays when it dips to 52 week lows, like it did months ago, quick profits.

Interesting to see the "Dogs of the Dow" theory working, at least for the beggining of the year, might be worth a look for investors.

  • 3 Reasons To Avoid The Facebook IPO [View article]
When Facebook starts making billions in profit, it would probably mean tons of ADDITIONAL advertisements and other gimmicks that annoy users, such as myself, to the point that it will make facebook obsolete, just like it happened to hi5 and other social networks, it´s already becoming outdated, let´s wait 2 years for the next "big" social network idea, only suckers would buy Facebook.

  • Trading A Possible Oil Spike With Options [View article]
Iran´s just trying to keep the price of oil up, they´re not going to do anything= price goes down. The other scenario is Iran does something (or does nothing, makes no difference) and US military goes in and takes over in a week, takes all the oil and price goes down again. I see no reason to go long oil for Jan ´13, for Feb or March, I would agree. More downside than upside risk from here.

  • Iran plans to hold another round of naval exercises in the Strait of Hormuz in February, according to a report in the semi-official Fars news agency. The announcement was made late last night, following reports earlier in the day that thousands of U.S. troops are headed to Israel to take part in the largest-ever joint drill between the two countries. Crude futures +0.4% to $102.20. (previously)  [View news story]

  • "The principal of an (Iranian) oil embargo is agreed. It is not being debated anymore," says an EU diplomat. Traders expect Iran will find buyers for the roughly 18% of its crude that now goes to the EU - most likely in Asia - but will need to offer substantial discounts. Expectations of such a move have already hit the rial, which is off 40% vs. the dollar over the past month.  [View news story]

  • You Cannot Put A Value On Your Favorite Stock [View article]
The thing about valuation is, there are so many variables to DCF that the inputs should be forecasted carefully, conservatively, for RIMM, you should include a 5% decrease in sales (at least) to arrive at a good valuation, with my model, the share value of RIMM was around $17, not good enough to buy, but not good enough for me to short.

  • Analysts see oil prices staying above $100 a barrel in 2012, with the potential for an Iran disruption embedding a $10-$20 premium in prices. Also seen as contributing to the forecast for +$100 prices is the concerted effort of OPEC nations to keep prices elevated to help fund social assistance programs promised by governments in the Middle East and North Africa in response to the Arab Spring uprisings. WTI crude +0.2% to 99.54. [View news story]
This will surely not spur any inflation.

  • Buy Research In Motion Based On Valuation, Not Rumors [View article]
I recently did a DCF analysis and terminal value of RIMM, with -3% growth for next 5 years, stock is worth $24.10, above $45 in most optimistic scenario (to perpetuity w/3% growth). The question is, will its sales plunge, making it practically dissapear, as the stock suggests? I´m betting this company (which I don´t like at all, btw) will survive, looking at some Jan ´13 and ´14 call spreads, cheap way to gain exposure and you get GREAT risk/reward if they don´t go broke, if they do, you lose a couple hundred bucks, no biggie.

  • Vega Asset Management - until yesterday one of the key negotiators with Greece over its debt restructuring - threatens to sue if the losses imposed on private bondholders are too steep. Vega walked away from the table yesterday after reportedly (among other things) complaining about the ECB's refusal to take any losses on its holdings of Greek paper.  [View news story]
Vega asset management: Fight Goliath, hope you win, I really do, but come on, let´s be real for a minute, ECB taking losses? haha.

  • James Kostohryz Positions For 2012: 100% Cash The Only Way To Play This Market [View article]
Cash is king right now, not good to be long, dangerous to be short and only play intra-day has worked so far so good for me. Allows me to sleep well and wake up and handle whatever rumor, news or market extravangaza is thrown at me, 3% up? No problem, 5% down? Even better. Flat is the only condition I don´t like.
