Richard Evans spent 26 years in the military, Business and Management as well as marketing within the retail, transportation, education and health care fields. He now lives in Las Vegas. He writes extensively, having several hundred articles published on financial and travel topics as well as one guide book, with the help of two part time researchers. His personal investment philosophy is "complicated." He combines a selection of value/growth/dividend companies, in his best Warren Buffet imitation, along with a significant element to take advantage of arbitrage and other short term opportunities in the market. Richard Evans concentrates on Energy companies, dividend opportunities, special opportunities and arbitrage, and because he does live in Las Vegas he keeps a weather eye on the Gaming Industry.
I have worked in market research at Proctor and Gamble, and as a systems analyst at AT &T. I have also worked in healthcare, and run a successful internet adventure in addition to being a known indie rock musician. I lost pretty much everything when my business burned 10 plus years ago (underinsured). Illness nearly took me just two years ago, but I am a survivor, and back 100%. During those lean ten years I day traded high risk high dividend stocks and managed to come out with enough to retire. Don't want to do that again. Time to invest for income.
Retired, self-directed individual investor. Retired at 56 in March 2007 after 30 years with CA Superior Court with a modest lifetime pension and a small IRA now converted to a Roth. Native Californian, raised in the USAF and lived in various countries around the world, now reside in Sacramento, CA.
Discovered Seeking Alpha in late 2011 when I was ready to invest my IRA. I started using a method I dubbed DGI Lite using the Dogs of the CCCs lists for Dividend Growth. I changed over to high-yielders such as REITs and BDCs when I needed more income to move closer to family and buy a new home in 2013. Best move I could have made.
Retirement *is* all it's cracked up to be -- it's the best gig I've ever had!
Individual investor with particular interest in any company that is on the cusp of change--for the better. These companies will have at least several attributes in common: They are underfollowed; underappreciated; have a clear, stated strategy for driving profits; management and BOD are perfectly aligned with common shareholders; management team and BOD with a track record of rewarding shareholders; and have near-term catalysts that will have meaningful impact on the business. Simple, right?
