  • Macerich Declines Simon's $91-Per-Share Bid [View article]
I think Brad's comments below are right on... This offer will force to board to begin discussions, at the very least. And with the possibility of higher interest rates in the near future, SPG will likely push hard for consensus.

  • Another Sub-Prime Mess! [View article]
Thanks for your contribution. Many of the previous responses ignore the central tenet of the article in which I outline the risk to investors buying securitized auto loans - not the health of the sub-prime auto loan business, etc.

Additionally, I think your comment about the Fed intervention heading into its final phase is quite prescient. Unfortunately, it's the investors who will pay the most as rates rise, which they most assuredly must...

  • Another Sub-Prime Mess! [View article]
You're missing the point. It's not about sub-prime lending in and of itself. There is a legitimate market for the business. But price the risk with a valid credit rating so that investors are aware of the risks involved.

But when Wall Street bundles the loans with BBB ratings or higher, investors are being duped in their desperate search for yield due to interventionist policies of the Fed.

You're quite right about domestic uses, but the required infrastructure is still quite some time away to make any real difference. In addition, long haul trucking firms will make more headway when natural gas trucks can garner the required horsepower.

Until then, growing the worst recovering economy since World War II means doing whatever possible. As the largest producer of natural gas, we need to capitalize while we can...

  • Declining Liquidity Could Mean Trouble Ahead... [View article]
I actually get your points. Of course declining margin debt isn't any forward indicator to recession. If I gave that impression, I'll work harder at making my writing clearer.

In fact, I'm not making any points about recession. The markets and the economy are NOT the same thing. The Fed has propped up the markets in the hopes that the Keynesian folly of "escape velocity" can spool up. It won't. It can't. But that doesn't mean the markets can or even will correct. Central banks have been buying equities - and when you throw public money at the market, its hard to extrapolate anything with certainty. The name of the game now is risk management. That was the basis of my article.

I appreciate the comments. Pulling the trigger is the hard part, especially with the recent increase in market volatility from exogenous risks. But CVX is certainly an excellent candidate for a long term play, and when their LNG projects fire up, their free cash flow will take them to new highs...

Unfortunately, there is no single system of ticker symbols in use for preferred stocks. The correct ticker symbol for a preferred stock depends on whose information you are accessing. For information about what symbol Merrill Lynch uses, you will have to contact a Merrill representative.
