  • Why Barnes & Noble Is Thumping Borders [View article]
Yeah the $350 billion of debt is obviously a typo. That would make Borders a bigger calamity than Greece and Ireland combined. It's $350 million. This has been corrected in the original version but not transferred to the SA version. Will be corrected shortly.

  • Five Reasons Electric Cars Will Disappoint [View article]
Hi, I'm the guy who wrote this article. I cheer for people who are buying a Leaf or a Volt and I'm glad they're stepping up to be guinea pigs. It's worth keeping in mind, however, that we really don't know what the ownership and maintenance of these cars will be. All we know is that they're SUPPOSED to have low ownership costs. I'll believe it when we've got 5 or 10 years of data. Also just heard from a Leaf purchaser who had to spend an unadvertised $2,500 extra to get the charging apparatus installed in his house. These are the kinds of unhappy surprises that come with brand new technology. Still, I hope I'm completely wrong and EVs turn out to be a roaring success and finally we've found a way to start weaning ourselves from Saudi oil.
