  • Morgan skeptical of gold move [View news story]
Has anyone every seen a long sustainable move start out on high volume? That usually comes at the end, not the start.

  • All eyes on Starbucks' numbers in the U.S. [View news story]
What's to debate with this stock? At it's high, the price/book reached (back) to its previous all-time high, and its ROI for new buyers at that level fell to 3%. You would have to be a halfwit to own the shares under those cicumstances. Small wonder it is setting back. More to come, I would certainly guess.

  • Starbucks: Buy The Short Sighted Dip [View article]
I wouldn't be in a rush to buy a stock that has now risen to an historically high price/book ratio last seen at its then top in 2008. Your risks are becoming very high.

  • Starbucks blows off some steam [View news story]
Technically, the shares have certainly reached our own target and, indeed, have reached their previous high price/book ratio set in 2008. Anyone owning the shares now is hoping that history does not repeat.

  • Cisco: A Good Bargain Buy After Share Price [View article]
Dont you know that bad news, like wolves, travels in packs? Why should I not "fret if the stock goes to $17 (or lower)"? I would fret - and so would anyone else taking such unfortunate advice. Especially if more poor news comes out. One can put the idea away but one should not be holding this stock at present. (Coincidentally, my own target to consider purchase is $17.)

Are you putting us on? Someone actually bothered to post this breathless piece of info? (Even worse, I wasted my time in responding to the nonsense.)

  • Starbucks Brewing On All Cylinders: A Long Thesis [View article]
You must be some sort of a shill for the company, either that or you dont do your homework very well. According to Bloomberg, the ROE is about 33% on projected earnings for 2014 and the stock trades at close to 10 times book. That is very, very close to an extreme for SBUX historically (from which, by the way, the shares took a real plunge afterwards!). Compare with, say, MCD that trades closer to 6 times book and has an ROE of 38%, and then tell everyone which is the better value!

  • Cisco Holds Significant Growth Potential [View article]
I take it that you have not been paying attention to what Chambers has been saying lately about the outlook into 2014.

  • Cisco Is A Long-Term Buy [View article]
If you have read Chamber's recent comments, you would recognize that there is an undercurrent of warning in his message - similar to that he delivered in 2007. The stock is not particularly cheap right now, and conditions are 'iffy'. Caveat emptor.

  • Cisco Systems: Long-Term Value Creation Remains Intact As Management Takes The Right Steps [View article]
At a little over twice book value and with about a 20% ROE, the shares are trading about where they ought to. They are far from "cheap" but they are not excessive. If I were an analyst working for an investment dealer, I would rate them "market perform", and would go looking for something that offers a bit more potential!

  • Apple: Reality Bites, So Time To Sell [View article]
Apple may rise again. It has a lot of money and, presumably, a lot of ideas. But there is nothing interesting and evolutionary on its table right now: time will be required for that to emerge. "Hoping" that it will emerge, as so many commentaries on the company emphasize, is not "seeing" it emerge, however. The shares may jump around here but AAPL is dead money at best until something real and different enters the marketplace from this company.

  • Are restaurant stocks the next retail domino to fall? [View news story]
The "problem" with SBUX is not that it is not agreat company, but it has a valuation in price-to-book terms that is at the extreme high end for similar companies. So you are paying well up for its future, however bright one might like to think it will be. This is not investing: it is speculating.

  • BlackBerry Live Next Week Could Bring Shares To Life [View article]
Heins has mentioned at least three times (to my knowledge) that BB could do a deal with another company to use its BB10 os. Does everyone think he is just blowing smoke or is there a fire somewhere around here? Other companies that provide platforms tend to trade at quite high price/book multiples.
