  • Apple's Innovation Is Stronger Than Ever, Valuation Very Attractive [View article]
Ashraf, I don't agree with your thesis that Apple can now outperform everybody else by being more innovative in the silicon. I just did some comparative analysis of the new Win8 phones including Lumia 920, 820, Samsung ATIV, and the HTC 8X. All are very serious competitors to the iPhone 5, and the HTC in particular is very innovative in the form factor, a very impressive piece of work and beyond what Apple has right now. And all of these have more advanced silicon than Apple. The Win8 phones also all have a common user interface, which as Apple has learned makes it easier for customers to migrate to newer versions of hardware and software down the road. This will quickly turn into the old Apple vs the World model we have had in PCs, with lots of very large technology competitors innovating against Apple on features, performance, power, and cost. Apple knows how to keep a successful niche in this kind of market, but their days of dominating mobile and tablets are over.

  • Prospect Capital's Dividend: A Safe Haven From Any Storm [View article]
Hi Paul, I agree with you on PSEC, and I had planned to buy today, but the markets are closed. Now that they are on monthly dividends, there is always another ex-div date coming soon. Thanks for the analysis.

Excellent analysis, thanks for pulling this together. Most of these analysts act as though margins have no relevance in setting prices.

  • 5 Reasons Apple Still Trumps Google [View article]
I agree with your analysis. As far as phony click generation, Google has really ramped up the fraudulent click rate on youtube. They place those irritating ad boxes over millions of videos, and when you try to x click them closed, they almost always pop open in a new tab. You get to watch your video unhindered, but you have to close the new tab, and oh by the way, Google gets paid. This is no accident. Google has moved into outright fraud land, at least on youtube.

  • Amazon Buying Texas Instruments' OMAP Division: Strategic Or Nonsensical? [View article]
You are off base on this analysis. If I was Bezos and I was looking at what Apple is doing well, then having in-house SOC design capability would be at the top of my list, especially if I wanted to improve margins. TI fabs the OMAPs in Taiwan, then resells them at a markup to Amazon right now. So if Amazon buys the TI design center, they can get the chips made directly at whatever fab they prefer. It is the dream of every fab on earth (potentially including Intel) to have Apple or Amazon walk in their door and say "I need a few chips made." I am confident these talks have been ongoing for a while, because TI would not have discussed the situation without having a plan on what to do with the technology and Amazon. It is a win for both companies, the designers at TI who will be highly incentivized with Amazon stock and other goodies to stay on board, and consumers who will get even lower cost and better performance Kindles, and eventually Amazon smartphones.

  • Intel's Q3 Results: A Long-Term Look Between The Lines [View article]
Good article. I am still waiting for the Apple/Intel joint announcements on fab partnership, which will be a total game changer. They will leave Samsung/Google in the dust.

  • How Hard Will FTC Hit Google? [View article]
In March of 2000, an idiot judge declared that the Clinton government was right and ordered that Microsoft be broken up. That's the same day that the Nasdaq tipped over and headed straight down to less than half it's value, and the so called bubble was popped. Trillions of dollars of investor value was destroyed by our own government, over a case that was about obsolete technology and business models. The morons in DC could do the same thing at any time, because they have no understanding of anything about business or technology.

I would never do that, I can tell your dog is still a kid. But if the big guy at my house left some bacon out by the lazy boy, I would be all over that in one wag of a tail! Got to choose your battles wisely.

  • Intel: Nice Price Or Falling Knife? [View article]
Hey Mike, I have been following Intel down this year like you, now they are at a 52 week low. Not pretty. Windows 8 better give them a pop. Hey, we should share a bag of bacon Beggin' Strips sometime, at least that's an investment we can enjoy before it goes down the tubes.

  • Intel's Atom Z2760 For Tablets - Great Chip, But Margins No Longer Safe [View article]
Good article and discussion, valid points and many positives for Intel. But despite a $B foundry deal announced with Cisco (and nothing with Apple..yet) Intel is still at a 52 week low ahead of earnings on 19th. If the windows 8 release doen't get them a boost by the end of the year, all the technical esoterica will mean nothing.
