    @KenNagle

    Dividends are priced in option premiums under the widely used "Black Scholes" pricing formula.
    There is only one cited work on the web that demonstrates how dividend are priced in options. Can you believe that? I tried to write an article on that subject, too lengthy and complicated to describe readers. However, I'll keep on it. Maybe have it finished before the next Apple dividend.

    Thanks for the input and head pounding reminder.

    @ raifel
    Funny you mention that. However, it takes some explaining of how the dividend mechanics work. It's not easy as people think it is. Lot of complicated terms and vocabulary.
    But you're right this statement works..."To get the dividend, buy before the ex-dividend day; you can sell on the ex-dividend day."

    Thanks for the input

    @saltynesscracker

    That's right dividend/share buyback were both most likely priced in the stock when Apple Inc. board of directors officially announced the dividend and $10 billion cash buyback

    Three ways for shareholders to receive dividends
    For dividends paid to shareholders who have shares registered in their name, there are three alternatives:

    Direct Deposit: The dividend payment is transferred by electronic funds on the dividend payable date directly to your checking or savings account.
    Check: You may have your dividend checks sent directly to your residence or bank.
    Dividend Reinvestment: You may automatically reinvest all or part of your dividends in additional shares of a stock through the company's reinvestment plan for common stock.

    "automatic" means shareholders are on the companies record of purchasing (AAPL) shares. Therefore the ($2.65) dividend will be paid automatically on the payout date (August 16).

    Hi Martham
    I mentioned the recod date. The ex-dividend date is the most important to investors and traders.

    "What does the record date mean?

    Record date is automatic for shares purchased before the ex-dividend date."

    August 8th is the last day to be considerd "with dividend". Record date (Monday, August 13) is three business days after the ex-dividend date (today).

    Hope that helps

    Well most of the MF's and large institutional buyers have to wait to reshuffle monthly/quarterly/annu...

    I'm betting towards the end of August we will see a pick up in (AAPL) share price

    @consultnick

    Well thank you consultnick, that a very nice compliment. It took me awhile, and it sounds like it took you awhile, to figure out all these dividend terms and mechanics. Many are redundant and people use the big talk terms to casual investors, which only confuses them more so.
    I tried to break it down as best I could to all theses young and new Apple (AAPL) dividend investors. It looks like it helped, the article has spread throughout the social media gizmos Facebook (http://bit.ly/zmUlk5) and Twitter. I was quite surprised to see how popular this article is.

    Well, I'm glad you have a dividend reference on your desktop for the rest of you investing days.

    Thanks

    Great point
    Words are important. Dividends are for investors not so much for traders.

    Good to see you're an Apple shareholder.

    "There seems to be a gene in males that causes them to overdo info. I guess this is due to the fact that they won't ever listen to someone giving them directions... It's really annoying to have to sift through pages of stuff only to get to the end and still not know what the heck the guy is talking about."

    So you understood?... because I'm confused
    Thanks for the kind comment, I think?
