Why I Bought Linn Energy 3 Months Ago And Still Like It [View article]
Personally, I have held the stock (LINE) since around 2011 and have also taken a hit. However, like you, I am confident about Linn Energy's future. I bought some more shares of Linn Energy during its current fall. Long LINE!

Even with the $400 million extra in dividends, when you subtract that then you leave $1.525 billion in dividends paid with "Net cash provided by operating activities" at $1.590 billion in 2012, which leaves $65,000 left over. To repay their debt they had to take out another $3.477 billion which they used $2.752 billion to pay down their debt. With these facts they cannot continue to support their dividend. I am not trying to mislead; I do not own Seadrill and I am not shorting the stock and I also have no plans to buy it in the immediate future.

I have a question for the author. I am currently looking at the Q1 2012 through Q4 2012 reports and I am seeing a trend. The trend I am seeing is a significantly higher "Interest and finance costs, net of interest income" and "Drilling rig operating expenses" than last year. Would you please explain this to me? Is this because of downtime and repairs for the "Drilling rig operating expenses?" For the "Interest and finance costs, net of interest income" is it because of their debt?

I strongly believe that if you want an excellent MLP with a nice dividend than Linn Energy (LINE) is a much better choice. I wrote a focus article on Seadrill right before their 4th quarter 2012 report came out.
I believe my article goes into more depth regarding why not to buy Seadrill.
"Net cash provided by operating activities" was $1.590 billion in 2012. While Seadrill paid a total of $1.925 billion in dividends. Therefore, I believe that the dividend is under threat of reduction.

I agree with your analysis of Seadrill. With the sale of most of their tender tig fleet to SapuraKencana for $2.9 billion they lose most of the only source of operating income that had been consistently increasing from Q1 2012 through Q4 2012.
