I've been at institutions for years...they don't just buy largecaps. Any security with a cap above $400 million can be owned by anybody managing less than a billion while still having some ability to steer the boat.
I'm certainly not scoffing (who is, as you claim?) but following the absolute largest institutional buyers might be a dangerous scenario. They often cater to retail investors at the end of the food chain, and those folks are still backing out of the market as much (if nor more) than those entering strategically.
