  • Just One Stock: The Biopharma Veteran Facing a Landmark Stem Cell Trial [View article]
    Leviek,

I believe that Geron has a poison pill in place, so someone, if interested in buying Geron, would have to wow investors to entice them to sell their shares instead of buying more shares. However, I believe that provision is due to expire soon which doesn't seem like a coincidence with Okarma going and Huh coming in.

It seems like the company is open to anything now whether it be partnerships, buyout, or if results are positive and its seen rather quickly, just going it alone.

I have said in other comments on this article that it would not surprise me if Geron was bought out between $20-$30. If a buyout happens I am not nervous at all. I'll gladly take the profits and look to use a portion of it, maybe all of it, and I would just buy the stock of the acquirer and continue to follow Geron's pipeline.

Anyone that would want to buy Geron would have to do it before any trial gets to phase 3 in my opinion because at that point Geron might use tactics to fend off someone because they would know for sure they could go it alone or a bidding war might ensue between multiple companies.

    KC,

It is important to remember that phase 1 is mainly safety and seeing if any signs of toxicity. Based on what we know/see with this one patient (TJ), I believe GRNOPC1 is at least demonstrating that as he is driving and planning to return to school in the fall I think.

What is interesting is the 2nd picture, the one where TJ has twisted himself in laughter. Depending on where the injury was, I believ if it was T3-T7 then the patient would not have the ability to control the abdomen like that. If it was T8-T10 then any movements with the abdomen is commonplace. So the question is where did his injury occur?

Another note was that he received a low dose of stem cells, that will continuously divide every so often. If the treatment works it is far to say we will see it at a later time than what would be with a higher dose of stem cells.

2011 is going to be monumentally intriguing as we continue to learn about TJ, Tory, and any other patients in GRNOPC1 trial, as well as ACTC's SMD/AMD trials starting this summer.

Its dilutive for a few reasons. 1) More shares means lower EPS. So if the P/E stays the same the price will be lower. 2) Did you buy those shares first? Other did so the % of the company you own goes down. 3) What was the market price at the time around $6.80? The company sold it for $6, so naturally if the company is valuing themselves at $6 then the market will follow which always happens and it takes a while (a couple of quarters) to break free of that pricing.

Selling covered calls against my position. Stock is just too darn cheap still so I'll reduce my price.

Straight to the point and simple, laid out nicely. Good article and agree. If this thing drops to 4.75 not only will I eat my hat, but I'll look to double my position.

Thanks Ravi good work yesterday. What is your opinion of Buffett's next big acquisition? Would he go with insurance or something more cyclical in your view?

I am long BRK-B but I think he should buy coal. The sector is cheap, China (and US) need it, he has oil services but not coal in the portfolio, and it would be good synergy to Burlington (need to fill those trains with something!). I am long ACI as well.

Thanks in advance for your opinion.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I've stated before if there is a buyout of Geron I would take some of that gain and put it into the stock of the acquirer.

I am long NCT. Good article from valuation and technical standpoint. A big point, however, not discussed, was that the preferreds are no longer in arrears and there should be an expectation of a dividend returning to the common sometime this year, perhaps even this quarter!

Dr. Huh is the reason for the speculation. He is chairman of the board now and works for Sanofi, he sold his previous company to Sanofi as well.

A cancer cure is estimated to be $50 trillion. Not saying Imetelstat is a cure, but if it turns out to be an effective universal treatment even a fraction of $50 trillion (1% would still be $500 billion!) would definitely move the stock price. OPC1 if only successful in spinal injuries would be about $25 billion annually, if successful in MS, Parkinson's and Alheimer's, this becomes about $100 billion treatment that would double SNY stock price easily. Like you said analyst estimates have earnings decreasing a little, looks like they need a buyout to get those (and more) pennies in earnings back.

Also like you said SNY seems cheap compared to its competitors and pays a 3.2% dividend. I'll take that value along with Geron's IP any day.

I would hold, in an all stock deal, or buy the stock of the acquiring company because I believe in Geron's pipeline.

Good article. Also long DRYS. Would like your opinion on OCRG and the potential spin-off. OCRG has a market cap larger than DRYS so I believe the market is missing something here and that makes DRYS undervalued in its own right.

I would not be surprised if Sanofi bought us out between $20-$30.
