Intel Might Come Out of Recession Stronger [View article]
Thanks for the appreciation. Although it was much easier to spot INTC being too cheap, I think it has much less upside at these levels.
At these levels, I would say INTC is fairly valued in these conditions. If you own the stock, I would advise to sell options for the end of the month. That way, if it rises any more you get a slightly overvalued price. If not, you collect the premiums and own a great long-term stock.

flashrob: Can you some up in a few sentences why we should invest in OCNF over their competitors and why big issues such as management are to be of no concern.
OceanFreight: Risky, But Deserving of Consideration [View article]
nonidiomatic: Doing business with your family racks up fees for both sides. OCNF recently sold and bought some ships from the CEO's aunts company and his uncles company, both individuals taking millions of dollars in fees off the deal. Let's make our own companies, trade each other ships back and forth at par value, and rack up millions in fees for ourselves. Sound like a fair business you want to be a part of? Not me. If you are willing to take a risk on management however, OCNF is fire-sale priced.
stefano: Agreed, the major dilution was unnecessary, but if they put it to good use in this down environment, that could change everything. Increasing management salaries....well....th... a whole different story.

I agree, and am long SYK. Good luck with your Nittany Lion Fund, how did it do this past year? It's a pretty cool thing managing real money, my college Bentley University runs a similar program.

I didn't mean they would have long-term lower costs from lower commodities, only a few quarters of lower costs once the lower commodity costs of today kick in. Then back onto higher costs.

I've decided to avoid this company for what bfras921. If you look even more into the company reports, you will see they do significant dealings with family members companies....hundred of millions of dollars worth. Sketchy? I'd say so.

great article, nice graphics. I too am long SYK and was lucky to catch it in the $32's a month or two ago. I'll look to add if it dips down again.....a big IF.

I abhor Spam too.
But anyway, I've put my money where my mouth is and have sold off portions of my portfolio that have seen large run-ups in the past month or two (some more than 50%).
The only name I have been actively buying into recently is UNG.
Thanks again Marc. Although I happen to like NYX, I see the point your trying to make.
People always ask me how you can tell stocks are 'cheap' and which ones are winners. As you've demonstrated, there are not only thousands of metrics, but there are problems with all of them. It's always frustrating teaching a valuation metric only to say at the end...."but this number is almost always inaccurate or misleading."
Thanks again for showing that everyone needs to use various metrics and there are problems with every one of them.
Howard: Thanks. There was an article in the WSJ about KFT benefiting the bottom line through price increases. Now that commodity prices have cratered, I think KFT may be able to keep prices just as high, or at least lower them slower than the commodity prices. This should help them even further.
