Hobski, that's why we probably won't go short on it, even though James Chanos has shorted HPQ.

Asic_guy, we originally liked Mark Hurd however we have been carefully reassessing it based on the performance of Palm and EDS since he left. With regards to R&D, while Hurd may have cut back R&D spending, he did increase annual CapEx spending.

We've been following all three. So far, we think XRX has a better chance of preserving and adding value on behalf of shareholders.
We will be publishing an additional report on HPQ next week and potentially two reports on XRX over the next 10 days.

tibbyracers, in the case of HPQ, sometimes it is better to pay a little more for a cheery consensus.

Dean, that's another reason why we have it on our watch list. Speaking for ourselves, since we don't have a position, we don't have to deal with the emotional biases associated with holding a once great company like HPQ. We've been watching it off and on for the last year and we've been giving it more attention in the last 3 months.

musiccomposer, it appears that HPQ has been composing some sour notes with its deal-crazed acquisition spree.

joenash, HP spent ~$17B on R&D and $15B on net capex under Mark Hurd. How much should they have spent?

SkipK, we prefer AAPL to ORCL and HPQ. If we to buy another tech company, our first goal would be Will Larry Ellison want to buy it out?
